Racing Incident Report

When the gates opened, PARADIS bounded in the air. JOINT PEACE was slowly away. Near the 400 Metres, KONRAD THE GREAT was shifted in to try and find running, was disappointed and was shifted out across the heels of D'OR WIN. Near the 300 Metres, TOM'S FIRST was steadied when disappointed for running between ALBELA and TRIUMPHANT GLORY. In the Straight, PERFETTO had a tendency to lay in. Near the winning post, OPERA MAGIC shifted out towards PERFETTO and about right on the winning post brushed PERFETTO. Also near the winning post, HANDBAG DRAGON, which was making some ground, was steadied when disappointed for running between PARADIS and PERFETTO. D Whyte (HANDBAG DRAGON) explained at the horse's previous run over 1400 Metres, he had ridden it in a prominent position and the horse had been disappointing. Today from a difficult draw, his intention always was to ride quietly in the early stages, allow the horse plenty of time to settle and over the concluding stages ride for luck. He said running towards the first turn, an opportunity for him to find a position close to the rail and with cover almost presented itself, but he was momentarily caught outside the heels of JOINT PEACE and had to come back than he would have liked to get in. He did point out when he rode the horse in a 1400 Metre race early in the season, it had come from well back and closed off quite strongly. The explanations submitted were accepted. OPERA MAGIC and PERFETTO were sent for sampling.
