Racing Incident Report

KOWLOON'S BLESSING was withdrawn on 22.3.02 on veterinary grounds (very high muscle enzyme). Before racing again, KOWLOON'S BLESSING will be required to pass an official veterinary examination. FAT CHOY TREASURE was withdrawn on 23.3.02 on veterinary grounds (sore off fore foot). Before being permitted to race again, FAT CHOY TREASURE will be required to pass an official veterinary examination. When the gates opened, ALLEGRO bounded in the air and lost a lot of ground, shifted in and bumped DANDY BUNNY. SMART HORSE left the gates awkwardly, shifted in and bumped the inside of its starting stall. On jumping, ASPIRATION and CLASSA WIN came together. From an outside gate, CELLINI was obliged to race wide throughout and was not able to find any cover. Near the 200 Metres, E Legrix (CLASSA WIN) dropped his whip. W C Marwing (MY JOY) said in his opinion at no stage was the horse comfortable in tonight's going and he did say on pulling up he thought it may have been sore. After the race, the Veterinary Surgeon said MY JOY was significantly lame in its near side front leg. Before being allowed to race again, MY JOY will be required to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial and must pass an official veterinary examination. The Stewards allowed Mr P Chapple-Hyam, trainer of CELLINI, an opportunity of explaining the horse's run this evening when compared with its previous runs that it had in Hong Kong. Mr Chapple-Hyam said since being in his stable the horse has always in his opinion worked well and showed some ability, and that was the case again before tonight's race. He said at its last start the horse had been ridden in a forward position and following the race S King had told him he thought the horse would perform much better if given a chance in the run. Mr Chapple-Hyam said tonight he instructed Apprentice S K Sit from an outside gate to try and steady in the early stages and find some cover, however, as things turned out, whilst he was able to steady, he was not able to find any cover. Mr Chapple-Hyam said the only significant change in the manner in which he handled the horse was he had eased up in its work and had given the horse more swimming. He also did point out CELLINI was sired by a horse which was successful in soft ground. Mr Chapple-Hyam concluded by saying he did think the horse would run better this evening, but to win as it did was a significant surprise. The explanations submitted were accepted.
