Racing Incident Report

WINNING WAYS was slowly away. FELICITY left the gates awkwardly and threw its head about. On leaving the gates, MUNDAHISH and GOLDCHIN BEST came together. In the early stages, the saddle on COLLEGE TOWN shifted. The horse also pulled and proved difficult to settle and became unbalanced several times when close to the heels of runners in front. In the early and middle stages, MUNDAHISH hung out. About the 1200 Metres, GOLDCHIN BEST shifted out to allow DEEP PURPLE racing room which was improving on its inside. After this, GOLDCHIN BEST was obliged to race wide and was not able to find any cover. Apprentice K K Lai (MUNDAHISH), in the presence of his allocated trainer, Mr A T Millard, pleaded guilty to a breach of Rule 100(2) in that he had failed to ride his mount out to the end of the race to the satisfaction of the Stewards. Apprentice K K Lai was suspended from riding in races for a period to expire on Monday 10 June 2002 on which day he may resume race riding (4 Hong Kong racedays). The commencement of the suspension was deferred until after the meeting next Saturday 25 May 2002 at Sha Tin. D Whyte (DEEP PURPLE) said the horse missed the start slightly and got further back than anticipated, he was then able to make some ground inside WORLD STAR, turning out of the Straight the first time improved inside GOLDCHIN BEST. He said however near the 1000 Metres he was concerned with the manner in which DEEP PURPLE was travelling and with 600 Metres to go was aware the horse would not be figuring in the finish. He said DEEP PURPLE was well beaten in the Straight and as he was concerned with its action, he did not ride the horse out as he normally would. DEEP PURPLE was sent for clinical veterinary examination and testing.
