Racing Incident Report

Turning out of the Straight the first time, CHIVAS LAD was steadied to avoid the heels of ELECTRONIC SEEKER which was taken in by MILLENNIUM LEGEND (W M Lai) which shifted to the rail when barely clear. W M Lai was told he must exercise far more care. W C Marwing (MISSION POSSIBLE) explained he had been riding the horse in some of its recent work, this work was considered by the stable to be satisfactory and it was thought MISSION POSSIBLE would run well tonight. He said the intention even from the outside gate was to go forward and lead. He said in the early stages he rode along hard in an endeavour to carry the instructions out, was not able to lead as MILLENNIUM LEGEND had taken up that position and he therefore took the position just off that horse. He said MISSION POSSIBLE travelled satisfactorily, but in the Straight when put under pressure did not respond, in the run to the line weakened right out of the race and was very disappointing. He was not able to put forward any real explanation for the run. Before MISSION POSSIBLE can race again, it will be required to pass an official veterinary examination. The Stewards allowed S Dye an opportunity of explaining the disappointing run of DEEP PURPLE. S Dye said the horse had trialed satisfactorily recently at Sha Tin, he had been riding it in most of its work and it was thought the horse would run well tonight. He said he was asked by the trainer to try and take up a position somewhere towards the front. He said however whilst DEEP PURPLE left the gates satisfactorily, he was not able to go forward as instructed, shifted across towards the rail and took up a position further back than planned, but even to maintain a position he said he had to ride along much more than he would have wished. He said in the early and middle stages the horse did not travel at all as expected, he pulled the whip initially before the 400 Metres and in the Straight DEEP PURPLE did close off quite satisfactorily. He said he pointed out to the connections of DEEP PURPLE after the race that in his opinion the horse might race better at Sha Tin and with some changes to its gear. DEEP PURPLE was sent for sampling and a clinical veterinary examination. ADMIRAL and WORLD STAR were sent for sampling.
