Racing Incident Report

ALWAYS ON was withdrawn on 5.10.02 on veterinary grounds (right fore tendon injury) and replaced by Standby Declared Starter STRAIGHT SCOTCH (R Quinn). Before ALWAYS ON can race again, it will be required to pass an official veterinary examination. After arriving at the Start, E Saint-Martin (OVER SUBSCRIBE) reported to the Veterinary Surgeon that his horse had been kicked by a lead pony on the way to the gates. OVER SUBSCRIBE was examined by the Veterinary Surgeon. He said the horse trotted out sound and after the necessary consultations said in his opinion it was suitable to race. He also noted OVER SUBSCRIBE had some blood in its mouth. After being boxed, KALIMANTAN became fractious and broke through. It was quickly caught and before being re-boxed was examined by the Veterinary Surgeon who said in his opinion it was suitable to race. Before KALIMANTAN can race again, it will be required to perform satisfactorily in a stalls test. FAST TRACK left the gates a little awkwardly, was then checked when crowded between OVER SUBSCRIBE which shifted out slightly and THE RICH MAN which left the gates awkwardly, got its head up and shifted in abruptly. CHERISHED jumped very awkwardly with its head up and shifted in. PRINCE GOLF was slowly away. NEW DYNASTY jumped awkwardly and threw its head up, just after the start commenced to hang out and for the rest of the race hung out badly. About the 900 Metres, THE RICH MAN, which was inclined to be pulling, was checked when crowded for room between FAST TRACK which shifted out slightly from behind EL CAPITAN and TOUCH DOWN which got its head on the side and hung in away from the heels of KALIMANTAN. The check to THE RICH MAN was one of some significance, but in view of all the circumstances, no action was taken. W C Marwing (KALIMANTAN) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)]. The careless riding being that about the 800 Metres he allowed his mount to shift in when not clear of OVER SUBSCRIBE. As a consequence of this, OVER SUBSCRIBE lost the running to which it was rightfully entitled, was checked, shifted ground and caused EL CAPITAN to be unnecessarily hampered. W C Marwing was suspended from riding in races for a period to expire on Monday 21 October 2002 on which day he may resume race riding (3 Hong Kong race days). The commencement of the suspension was deferred until after the Happy Valley meeting next Wednesday night 9 October 2002. About the 300 Metres, EL CAPITAN, which had been racing greenly, was steadied when crowded between TOUCH DOWN and FAST TRACK which shifted out. At about the same time, TOUCH DOWN was momentarily awkward when close to the heels of KALIMANTAN. OVER SUBSCRIBE, CHERISHED and FAST TRACK were sent for sampling. After the race, the Veterinary Officer noted FAST TRACK had sustained a small laceration to its chest.
