Racing Incident Report

GOOD BOY left the gates awkwardly and threw its head up. EL CAPITAN also jumped awkwardly and was further inconvenienced by SIR TIMAH which on jumping shifted out abruptly away from VENETIAN MASTER. After this, EL CAPITAN was ridden along, then near the 800 Metres proved somewhat difficult to settle, got its head up, shifted out abruptly across the heels of UNIVERSAL PIONEER and when shifting ground caused some inconvenience to VENETIAN MASTER. Shortly after the start, ENLIGHTENMENT became unbalanced and knuckled. Near the winning post, VENETIAN MASTER, which was closing off nicely, was steadied and shifted out abruptly to avoid WONDERFUL WIN. In the run to the line, BRILLIANT shifted out and raced close beside PORTER RICKS. In the Straight, WONDERFUL WIN hung in rather badly and proved difficult to ride out. WHATA FEELING was sent for a clinical veterinary examination and sampling. After the race, WHATA FEELING was examined by the Veterinary Officer. No abnormalities were detected. ENLIGHTENMENT, PORTER RICKS and BRILLIANT were sent for sampling. On pulling up, D Whyte (BRILLIANT) said the horse was coughing. The Veterinary Officer carried out an inspection of the horse including an endoscopic examination. This revealed the presence of a significant amount of blood in the trachea. Before BRILLIANT can race again, it will be required to pass an official veterinary examination. On dismounting, E Legrix (UNIVERSAL PIONEER) said the horse was making an abnormal breathing noise during the race. The horse was inspected by the Veterinary Officer. An endoscopic examination was carried out. No abnormalities were detected.
