Racing Incident Report

GOOD WIN left the gates very awkwardly, threw its head about and shifted in abruptly. FLAMENCO STAR also came from the gates awkwardly. On jumping, DEREK'S CHOICE shifted in abruptly and bumped FELICITY. When questioned, D Whyte (GOOD HEART) said he had been instructed by the trainer from a difficult gate to try and settle the horse in the early stages, give it a chance and ensure the horse closed the race off strongly. D Whyte said GOOD HEART jumped satisfactorily, just after the start was bumped by DASHING CHAMPION, then as expected got back in the race. He said running along the back GOOD HEART was inclined to be racing greenly, he was aware FELICITY and GOOD WIN came together several times in front of him, this was of concern and accordingly about the 600 Metres he shifted out to be travelling away from those horses. He said over the concluding stages GOOD HEART was inclined to race greenly, in the early part of the Straight got its head on the side and hung in. He said when he went to ride GOOD HEART out with the whip after the 200 Metres, his left hand became entangled in the mane and he was not able to ride GOOD HEART out in his normal fashion. Mr L Fownes, trainer of GOOD HEART, confirmed the instructions and added he was anxious to see the horse closed the race off well which he acknowledged it did. He also said on dismounting D Whyte said to him GOOD HEART is obviously looking for more ground. The explanations regarding the riding of GOOD HEART from Mr Fownes were accepted. D Whyte was told his riding, particularly over the concluding stages had caused considerable concern and whilst this evening the matter was not proceeded with, in slightly different circumstances it may have been. He was told he should endeavour to ride all his mounts in such a manner so as to leave no room for query at all. ORIENTAL PEARL was sent for a clinical veterinary examination and sampling. After the race, it was reported that ORIENTAL PEARL was bleeding from both nostrils. DASHING CHAMPION and DEREK'S CHOICE were sent for sampling.
