Racing Incident Report

When the gates opened, TOY QUEST bounded in the air, but was then immediately steadied to take up a position towards the rear but close to the rail. On jumping, INDUSTRIAL PRIDE threw its head about. WOODSON and WINNING BOY were slowly away. About the 800 Metres, POINT GREY threw its head about when being steadied away from the heels of EVER SUCCESS. Some inconvenience was caused to OPERATION HUMOUR and TOY QUEST which were following. In the middle stages, SMILING FOREST, which was pulling, shifted out. As a consequence of this, LUCKY COMBINATION was obliged to race wider and without any cover. Near the 600 Metres, LUCKY COMBINATION and SMILING FOREST bumped. In the latter part of the Home Turn and in the early part of the Straight, LUCKY COMBINATION hung in. In the run to the winning post, S K Sit (INDUSTRIAL PRIDE) was hit on the arm by the whip of W M Lai (MILLENNIUM SPIRIT). Near the winning post, W M Lai was hit on the hand by the whip of S K Sit. On pulling up, it was noted POINT GREY was coughing. An endoscopic examination revealed a significant amount of blood in the horse's windpipe. It was also noted POINT GREY had sustained a laceration to its right hind fetlock joint. Before POINT GREY can race again, it will be required to pass an official veterinary examination. D Dunn (GALLANT HORSE) explained the intention was to ride the horse somewhere just off the speed if possible. He said as has been established in the past, GALLANT HORSE settles better with cover. He said today in the early stages he was not able to find the position and again he was of the view it was against the best interests of GALLANT HORSE to overly restrain the horse. He felt in the circumstances of today's race it was in its best interests to allow GALLANT HORSE to run along in front and dictate the pace. LUCKY COMBINATION, NOBLE FALCON and EVER SUCCESS were sent for sampling. After the race, it was noted OPERATION HUMOUR had lost both front plates.
