Racing Incident Report

GOLFING PARTNERS was restless in the stalls. Then just as the gates opened, GOLFING PARTNERS reared, as a consequence lost a lot of ground. Before GOLFING PARTNERS can race again, it must perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial. RESOURCEFUL PRINCE was slowly away. GOLDEN SPIRIT left the gates awkwardly, shifted some ground and bumped the hindquarters of FIVE GRAINS. Near the 1200 Metres, SHABU SHABU, which was pulling, shifted out away from MASTER MAGIC and bumped PERPETUAL PLEASURE. Near the 600 Metres, FIVE GRAINS was steadied to avoid the heels of GOLDEN SPIRIT which eased up slightly in front. Approaching and rounding the Home Turn, PERPETUAL PLEASURE raced ungenerously and hung out. In the Straight, GOLDEN SPIRIT hung out. Near the winning post, MASTER MAGIC was inconvenienced by FIVE GRAINS which was shifting out. Because of this, MASTER MAGIC was not ridden out right to the line as it normally would be. When questioned, H K Yim (PERPETUAL PLEASURE) said he has been riding the horse in all of its gallops of recent times, this work has been good, on the track the horse has not been pulling and he has found little difficulty in settling it. Tonight from a difficult draw the intention had been to try and ride the horse somewhere about midfield if possible with cover. He said PERPETUAL PLEASURE left the gates better than he thought it would, immediately started to travel and he found himself further forward than intended. He said PERPETUAL PLEASURE without any cover was proving difficult for him to settle, was pulling and near the 1200 Metres when bumped by SHABU SHABU became unbalanced, over-raced and from this point on did not settle, then in the latter stages dropped out. The explanations submitted by H K Yim were accepted. S Dye (GOLDEN SPIRIT) said turning out of the Straight the first time, he was in a position a little worse than midfield and one away from the running rail. He said however the pace then steadied up and several times near the 1200 Metres GOLDEN SPIRIT threw its head about and became unbalanced. The horse continued to over-race going towards the 1000 Metres, got its head up, shifted out and after the 1000 Metres with the pace still very moderate, STOIC, which was pulling on its inside, shifted out and obliged him to race wide. He felt in all the circumstances it was in the best interests of GOLDEN SPIRIT to allow the horse to run forward and then endeavour to settle it. The explanations submitted were accepted. GOLFING PARTNERS was sent for a clinical veterinary examination. After the race, GOLFING PARTNERS was examined by the Veterinary Officer. No abnormalities were detected. STOIC and FIVE GRAINS were sent for sampling.
