Racing Incident Report

DESERT STRIKE was withdrawn on race day morning on veterinary grounds (sore pelvis). Before DESERT STRIKE can race again, it will be required to pass an official veterinary examination. On jumping, EXCELLENCE FOREVER shifted out abruptly. JADE RUYI, which was standing with its head turned to the left side, was slow to begin. In the early stages, due mainly to the pace, JUST TOO GOOD and MAGNIFICENT proved difficult to settle. At the 800 Metres, MAGNIFICENT, which was continuing to prove difficult to settle, was steadied when momentarily crowded for room by EXCELLENCE FOREVER (S K Sit). S K Sit immediately shifted EXCELLENCE FOREVER back out to allow MAGNIFICENT racing room. In the circumstances, no action was taken. At the 500 Metres, MEHBOOB THE THIRD was disappointed for running between ON THE TEE and JUST TOO GOOD which itself was momentarily steadied away from the heels of MAGNIFICENT which shifted out to go forward. After the 400 Metres, LUCKY DICE was steadied and shifted out to avoid the heels of EXCELLENCE FOREVER which was giving ground. After the 200 Metres, LUCKY DICE was bumped by JUST TOO GOOD which shifted in away from the heels of SMART CHIEF. Over the concluding stages, EXPLOSIVE POWER shifted out. G Mossé (SMART CHIEF), which began from barrier 2, explained he had been instructed to ensure the horse race on the outside of other runners as in the past when racing inside horses it had been green. He said to follow these instructions, after beginning well he immediately commenced to shift his horse out when able to do so and travelled in a position 4 wide initially with cover behind EXCELLENCE FOREVER. He said at about the 800 Metres he was able to shift in to be 3 wide, however, at that time EXCELLENCE FOREVER went forward to race outside the leader, as a consequence SMART CHIEF was obliged to race without cover. Mr J Moore, trainer of SMART CHIEF, confirmed the instructions issued to G Mossé. He said when the horse was ridden by D Whyte two starts ago, it had drawn barrier one and on that occasion quite clearly resented racing inside other runners. He said for this reason he had instructed G Mossé, despite having drawn an inside gate, to ensure the horse was not racing towards the inside. He expressed his satisfaction with the manner in which SMART CHIEF was ridden today and added in his opinion the moderate pace of today's race meant SMART CHIEF was obliged to race wider than he had anticipated. Mr Moore said should circumstances permit, at its next start SMART CHIEF will again be ridden away from the rail. The explanations of G Mossé and Mr Moore were accepted. SMART CHIEF was sent for a clinical veterinary examination. A veterinary examination of SMART CHIEF did not reveal any significant findings. MEHBOOB THE THIRD was sent for a clinical veterinary examination and sampling. After the race, MEHBOOB THE THIRD was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said at this time MEHBOOB THE THIRD was lame in the left hind leg and had sustained a cut to the left fore cannon. Before the horse can race again, it will be required to pass an official veterinary examination. EXPLOSIVE POWER and ON THE TEE were sent for sampling.
