Racing Incident Report

PLATINUM EXPRESS, first Standby Declared Starter, was withdrawn on 27.2.03 on veterinary grounds (lame right fore). Before being allowed to race again, PLATINUM EXPRESS will be required to pass an official veterinary examination. PERFECT SHADOW was slow to begin and lost considerable ground at the start. WAIALAE WIN was slow to begin. REAL WINNER began awkwardly. DIVINE FEELING, which was slow to begin, was crowded for room shortly after the start between TAMBORA STAR and NEW CENTURY which shifted in. Passing the winning post on the first occasion, DIVINE FEELING was steadied off the heels of NEW CENTURY, shifted in and brushed the running rail. Also passing the winning post on the first occasion, PERFECT SHADOW was briefly crowded for room inside BELLAGIO which hung in. Turning out of the Straight on the first occasion, DIVINE FEELING shifted out when awkwardly placed close to the heels of NEW CENTURY which in turn was steadied off the heels of TAMBORA STAR. REAL WINNER was inconvenienced as a consequence. Near the 700 Metres, DIVINE FEELING was momentarily crowded for room by REAL WINNER which shifted in slightly. Apprentice M W Leung was dislodged from PERFECT SHADOW when that horse broke down near the 500 Metres. Rounding the Home Turn, REAL WINNER was momentarily tightened for room inside NEW CENTURY. E Legrix (VAJRA) dropped his whip shortly after entering the Home Straight. In the early part of the Home Straight, GOLDEN MAPLE lay in under pressure. Near the 200 Metres, REAL WINNER was momentarily held up for clear running on the heels of TOP OF THE CROWN which was weakening. Whilst the Stewards considered the riding of G Schofield (GOLDEN GONG) in the run to the line did not affect the horse's finishing position and accordingly a breach of Rule 100(2) did not occur, they did however advise G Schofield he must ride all mounts out at least hands and heels to the end of the race whenever possible. ACE ACADEMY and WAIALAE WIN were sent for sampling.
