Racing Incident Report
HIGHLAND LEGEND was withdrawn on 3.5.03 on veterinary grounds (lame left fore) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter SCREAMING EAGLE (Apprentice C K Tong). Due to an error, Apprentice P H Lo was inadvertently released as the rider of SCREAMING EAGLE when Apprentice C K Tong had been notified as the rider. Before being allowed to race again, HIGHLAND LEGEND will be required to pass an official veterinary examination. INDIAN FIRE POWER was slow to begin. On jumping, KING OF SPADES was checked to avoid the heels of CAPITAL GAIN which shifted out abruptly. Shortly after the start, WATCHMAN shifted out and was steadied away from the heels of EUPHORIC KID. At the 1100 Metres, SUPER BEST was steadied when crowded for room between NORTHERN ROSE and ALWAYS ZIETEN which got its head on the side and shifted in away from SCREAMING EAGLE which itself shifted ground while hanging in. EUPHORIC KID, which was following, was checked in consequence. No action was taken. Making the Home Turn, NORTHERN ROSE hung out, then when giving ground after the 400 Metres shifted in, causing some crowding to EUPHORIC KID which had improved to its inside. As a result of this, both EUPHORIC KID and NORTHERN ROSE became unbalanced. After the 200 Metres, ALWAYS ZIETEN hung in, then near the 100 Metres shifted ground abruptly when not clear of PRINCE GOLF, causing that horse to be steadied. In the Straight, KING OF SPADES hung in and proved difficult to ride out. Throughout the race, CLANG'S PRIDE was obliged to race wide and without cover. EUPHORIC KID, CAPITAL GAIN and ALWAYS ZIETEN were sent for sampling. After the race, it was noted SUPER BEST was bleeding from a minor tongue wound.
