Racing Incident Report

After arriving at the Start, it was noted RIVER CENTAINE had a small cut to its right hindquarters. The horse was examined by the Veterinary Surgeon and passed suitable to race. TOM'S FIRST, MY FORTUNE and NOBLE CHAMPION were slow to begin. At the 800 Metres, LUCKY PARADISE was checked away from the heels of BEST FOR ALL when racing tight inside LUCKY LAD and outside the heels of KIMBERLEY MINES which was proving very difficult to settle and shifted out after being disappointed for running between MY FORTUNE and LOYAL DEVOTION. Also at the 800 Metres, TRUST ME was steadied when crowded for room by RIVER CENTAINE which was taken in slightly by HEALTHY FRUITS (K S Yu) which shifted in when not clear. K S Yu was severely reprimanded. At the 600 Metres, RIVER CENTAINE (B Prebble) and MY FORTUNE (G Schofield) fell. When these horses fell, LIFELINE EXPRESS (Apprentice K T Yeung), KIMBERLEY MINES (H K Yim) and LUCKY PARADISE (F Coetzee) were unable to avoid the fallen horses and as a result lost their riders, TOM'S FIRST was hampered and carried wider, and NOBLE CHAMPION was severely hampered, almost fell and was eased out of the race. As B Prebble, G Schofield, Apprentice K T Yeung and H K Yim were transported to hospital as a result of their falls, an inquiry into the reason for these falls was adjourned until a date and time to be fixed. F Coetzee was examined by the Club's medical officer who said he was fit to fulfil his remaining riding engagements. THE DUKE and SENSIBLE WAY were sent for sampling. After the race, MY FORTUNE, LIFELINE EXPRESS, KIMBERLEY MINES, RIVER CENTAINE and LUCKY PARADISE were examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said MY FORTUNE had sustained a puncture wound to its nasal area, was lame in the right fore leg and an endoscopic examination showed the horse to have blood present in its trachea and lungs. However, he was of the opinion that this blood could have originated as a result of the fall and therefore the horse should not be declared a bleeder. Before being allowed to race again, MY FORTUNE will be required to pass an official veterinary examination. He said there were no significant findings for LUCKY PARADISE and KIMBERLEY MINES. He said LIFELINE EXPRESS had sustained a small laceration to the left fore leg. He also said RIVER CENTAINE had sustained multiple abrasions to the head and left hind leg. Also after the race, LUCKY LAD was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said the horse had a cut to its mouth.
