Racing Incident Report

When being led to the Parade Ring, it was noted THE RICH MAN had sustained a laceration to its left hip. After arriving at the Start, THE RICH MAN was examined by the Veterinary Surgeon and after the necessary consultations it was decided the horse was suitable to race. ARRIBA-ARRIBA was slow to begin. On jumping, CYBER GULCH dipped. In the early stages, DE INTEGRO, which had been hard ridden in an endeavour to go forward and shift in, was unable to do so and in the early and middle stages was obliged to race wide without cover. Near the 600 Metres, CHERISHED became unbalanced when awkwardly placed outside the heels of BRAVISSIMO. After the 200 Metres, DE INTEGRO was momentarily steadied away from the heels of ME AND YOU (C Soumillon) which shifted out. ME AND YOU then continued to shift out and caused inconvenience to JADE RUYI and CHERISHED which were racing to its outside. C Soumillon was severely reprimanded and told in similar circumstances he should stop riding and straighten his mount sooner than he did on this occasion. Mr L Ho, trainer of JADE RUYI, said the horse's winning tonight did not surprise him. He said the horse had always shown a preference to race at Happy Valley over this course and distance, especially when drawn towards the outside. He said recently he had been racing JADE RUYI at Sha Tin because he was not able to find a suitable race for it at Happy Valley. CYBER GULCH was sent for a clinical veterinary examination and sampling. A veterinary examination of CYBER GULCH after the race did not reveal any significant findings. JADE RUYI and CHERISHED were sent for sampling.
Additional Veterinary Report (released on 27 Feb. 2003) :
The Senior Veterinary Officer has reported he examined BRAVISSIMO at the stables of Trainer D Oughton this morning and the horse was found to be lame in the left fore leg. Before BRAVISSIMO can race again, it will be required to pass an official veterinary examination.
