Racing Incident Report
While parading before the race, KOWLOON STAR shifted its left front plate and sustained a nail puncture wound to the foot. KOWLOON STAR was examined by the Veterinary Surgeon who said the horse was lame in the left front foot. Acting on this advice, the Stewards ordered the withdrawal of KOWLOON STAR. Before being allowed to race again, KOWLOON STAR will be required to pass an official veterinary examination. TIRAMISU began very awkwardly and shortly after the start was bumped by METRO FLYER which shifted in abruptly after being slow to begin. As a consequence of this, TIRAMISU raced further back than is usual. Making the Home Turn, GIFTED RUNNER hung out. On straightening, QUICK NEWS was bumped by KALIMANTAN which was shifting to the outside of GIFTED RUNNER to obtain clear running. Shortly after this, QUICK NEWS shifted back in and brushed KALIMANTAN. At the 300 Metres, LUCKY KING was steadied and shifted in when disappointed for running between TIRAMISU and BLESSINGS' PARTNER. Throughout the race, DESERT STRIKE was obliged to race wide and without cover, several times near the 800 Metres shifted in and bumped METRO FLYER when attempting to obtain cover, then in the Straight hung out and proved difficult to ride out. O REI was sent for a clinical veterinary examination. O REI was examined by the Veterinary Officer after the race. He said the horse was making an abnormal breathing noise. An endoscopic examination showed O REI to be an early "roarer". QUICK NEWS, KALIMANTAN and LASER GLORY were sent for sampling.

DESERT STRIKE was this morning examined at the stables of Trainer G Lane by Veterinary Surgeon, Dr C P H Osborne. He said DESERT STRIKE was lame in the right hind leg.
Before being permitted to race again, DESERT STRIKE will be required to pass an official veterinary examination.
