Racing Incident Report

SPARKY began awkwardly, bumped the outside of its gate and as a consequence lost ground. From the outside gate, STRONG GALLOP raced wide and without cover throughout and in the Straight hung in. Making the Home Turn, SNIPPEDYDOODA and EVER SUCCESS hung out. F Coetzee (LUCKY PARADISE) said it had been his intention to ride the horse behind the leaders with cover if possible. He said LUCKY PARADISE began well, he immediately commenced to ride it along, however, the horse appeared reluctant to stride out and he therefore elected to allow the horse to become balanced. He said when doing this, the horse dropped the bit and lost further ground than he would have liked. He said in the early and middle stages LUCKY PARADISE did not appear to be handling today's track conditions, however, when placed under pressure in the Straight, the horse responded well and closed the race off nicely. F Coetzee said the manner in which LUCKY PARADISE raced indicated it would be better suited at a distance further than today's 1200 Metres. R Fradd (BOBO WIN) said the horse had worked well leading up to today's race and was well fancied by the stable. He said BOBO WIN enjoyed a nice run throughout the race behind SNIPPEDYDOODA, a run presented itself to the inside of that horse on straightening, however, BOBO WIN failed to respond to his riding. He said after the race he noted BOBO WIN appeared to be "thick in the wind". BOBO WIN was sent for a clinical veterinary examination. A veterinary examination of BOBO WIN after the race did not show any significant findings. D Whyte (WINNING COUNTER) said he had ridden the horse in the work leading up to today's race and in his opinion this work was good. He said WINNING COUNTER raced three wide just off the lead, however, this was not of a concern to him. He said on straightening WINNING COUNTER was immediately placed under pressure and commenced to give ground shortly afterwards. D Whyte was unable to explain the performance of WINNING COUNTER. WINNING COUNTER was sent for a clinical veterinary examination and sampling. After the race, WINNING COUNTER was examined by the Veterinary Officer. No significant findings were made. CELESTIAL MAGIC and WINTROW were sent for sampling.
