Racing Incident Report

ASIA STAR was withdrawn on 16.10.03 on veterinary grounds (right hind bruised foot) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter SPARKLE. Before being allowed to race again, ASIA STAR will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. After arriving at the Start, AMOUR was noted to have blood present in its mouth due to a small laceration to the tongue. The horse was examined by the Veterinary Surgeon and after the necessary consultations was considered suitable to race. When the gates opened, AMOUR bounded in the air and began very awkwardly. NAOMERIC TE SPECSO and OH GREAT were slow to begin. MISSION POSSIBLE began awkwardly and then in the Straight hung in. Near the 1200 Metres, SPARKLE was steadied when momentarily crowded for room between LUCKY LUCKY and GLOBAL POWER. Making the turn at the 800 Metres, NAOMERIC TE SPECSO got its head on the side and hung out. Near the 700 Metres, AMOUR was steadied when awkwardly placed inside the heels of MISSION POSSIBLE. At the 300 Metres, LUCKY LUCKY was steadied when disappointed for running between SPARKLE and NAOMERIC TE SPECSO. After the 200 Metres, GLOBAL POWER, which was hanging in, was checked when disappointed for running between QUEEN'S GLORY and SPARKLE which shifted in slightly. Also after the 200 Metres, GIVE ME FIVE got its head on the side and shifted out. F Coetzee (ENERGETIC PRINCE) said he had ridden the horse in its track work leading into today's race and based on that work he felt the horse would be competitive. He said ENERGETIC PRINCE began only fairly, then at no stage of the race travelled well and did not close the race off at all. He said in his opinion ENERGETIC PRINCE did not enjoy today's track conditions. ENERGETIC PRINCE was sent for a clinical veterinary examination and sampling. GREAT DRAGON was sent for a clinical veterinary examination. After the race, ENERGETIC PRINCE and GREAT DRAGON were examined by the Veterinary Officer. No significant findings were made. O' SHINY and NAOMERIC TE SPECSO were sent for sampling. Following the race, it was noted GLOBAL POWER had lost its left front plate.
