Racing Incident Report

Trainer A S Cruz was fined $2,000 for presenting SPLIT SECONDS in the Parade Ring with side winkers which were not part of the horse's approved gear. To avoid an unreasonable delay, the Stewards permitted SPLIT SECONDS to race in side winkers. After arriving at the Start, SPLIT SECONDS, which had broken free in the Parade Ring, was examined by the Veterinary Surgeon. The horse was trotted up and after the necessary consultations was considered suitable to race. SPLIT SECONDS was slow to begin. On jumping, ALBELA and NEW MILESTONE were crowded for room between SHABU SHABU and ACE OF PACE which shifted out. NORTHERN ROSE began awkwardly. At the 1300 Metres, AMBITIOUS LEADER was momentarily steadied away from the heels of FLASH HARRY which shifted in when barely clear. Approaching the turn at the 800 Metres, NORTHERN ROSE proved difficult to settle, got its head up and was checked to avoid the heels of NICE MEMORIES which at that stage commenced to give ground. Some inconvenience was caused to FLASH HARRY which was following NORTHERN ROSE. After straightening, SPLIT SECONDS shifted out in an endeavour to find clear running, for some distance after the 400 Metes had difficulty obtaining a run between JOYFUL WORLD and FLASH HARRY, eventually was disappointed for this run, steadied and shifted to the outside of FLASH HARRY to go forward. After the 400 Metres, SHABU SHABU was steadied when disappointed for running between ALBELA and STRAIGHT WIN which was giving ground, then after the 200 Metres was again steadied and shifted out away from the heels of ALBELA which was shifting in. Over the concluding stages, FLASH HARRY hung in. For the major part of the race, FOREVER WIN and JOYFUL WORLD raced wide and without cover. The performances of NICE MEMORIES and STRAIGHT WIN, which tailed out, were considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, NICE MEMORIES and STRAIGHT WIN will have to perform competitively in an official barrier trial and will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. NICE MEMORIES and STRAIGHT WIN were sent for a clinical veterinary examination. After the race, NICE MEMORIES and STRAIGHT WIN were examined by the Veterinary Officer. No abnormalities were detected. NORTHERN ROSE, FLASH HARRY and VILLAGER were sent for sampling.
