Racing Incident Report

On leaving the Parade Ring, ENERGETIC PRINCE became fractious and dislodged D Whyte, its rider. After arriving at the Start, ENERGETIC PRINCE was examined by the Veterinary Surgeon and after the necessary consultations was considered suitable to race. After the start was effected but before the gates opened, ENERGETIC PRINCE lunged forward and broke open the front gate of its stall momentarily before the remainder of the gates opened. ENERGETIC PRINCE then began awkwardly and lost ground. On jumping, DOMINATION bounded in the air and was then bumped by RED FIREBALL which shifted in. SIGHT FIRST began awkwardly. In the early stages, BEST EVER proved very difficult to settle and got its head up when being steadied away from the heels of RED FIREBALL near the 1000 Metres. Also in the early stages, UNIVERSAL PIONEER proved difficult to settle. After the 1000 Metres, BOXING DAY, which was to be ridden with cover, got its head up when being steadied and shifted in behind UNIVERSAL PIONEER. In the middle stages, MILLENNIUM DAWN hung out. On straightening, WISHES was bumped and carried wider by ENERGETIC PRINCE which shifted to the outside of MILLENNIUM DAWN to obtain clear running. For some distance after the 400 Metres, BEST EVER was held up and unable to obtain clear running behind LUCKY VICTORIES and BOXING DAY. Throughout the race, RECOGNITION raced three wide and without cover but in a forward position. BOXING DAY was sent for a clinical veterinary examination. A veterinary examination of BOXING DAY after the race did not reveal any significant findings. LUCKY VICTORIES and UNIVERSAL PIONEER were sent for sampling.
Additional Veterinary Reports (released on 22 December 2003)
In the incident report for this race it was stated BOXING DAY was examined by the Veterinary Surgeon following the race and there were no significant findings. The Stewards have today been advised by the Senior Veterinary Surgeon the veterinary report should have said BOXING DAY was noted to have an intermittent displacement of the soft palate and a moderate amount of mucus in the trachea. Before racing again, BOXING DAY will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
