Racing Incident Report
LUCKSWELL began awkwardly. CHINOOK began awkwardly and bumped the outside gate of its stall. After passing the winning post the first time, SUNBELL was steadied away from the heels of SONGS OF PRAISE. At the 1300 Metres, MY CHIEF and PERFETTO came together. At the 1000 Metres, PERFETTO was steadied away from the heels of MASTERY. For some distance approaching and passing the 800 Metres, MY CHIEF got its head up when being steadied away from the heels of PERFETTO. After the 200 Metres, SERIOUS PLAY, which was beginning to close the race off strongly, was shifted out around the heels of BOBO DUCK which was giving ground. Throughout the race, KING DRAGON raced wide and without cover, then in the Straight gave ground and finished tailed out. The performance of KING DRAGON was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, KING DRAGON will have to perform competitively in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. S Dye (THUNDER MAN) said he had been instructed to ride the horse in a rearward position tonight as previously the horse raced best when ridden in this manner when carrying light weights. He said in accordance with those instructions after beginning well he immediately steadied THUNDER MAN and shifted across to race close to the rail but with the rear. He said after the 700 Metres he was aware the manner in which the race was being run would make it difficult for horses racing at the rear to be in the finish, however, for him to improve his position at that time he would have had to shift to the outside of LUCKSWELL and in his opinion this would not have been beneficial to his mount. He said in the Straight whilst THUNDER MAN was well beaten, the horse's run was not as disappointing as it might seem because of fast final sections. BOBO DUCK and THUNDER MAN were sent for a clinical veterinary examination. A veterinary examination of BOBO DUCK and THUNDER MAN after the race did not show any significant findings. MASTERY and WINNING DRAGON were sent for sampling.
