Racing Incident Report

FLORAL KING was withdrawn on 5.1.04 on veterinary grounds (sore both fore fetlocks) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter SUPER WONGCHOY. Before being allowed to race again, FLORAL KING will have to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. On jumping EXULTATION and TURF LUCK came together. LUCKY SUPERSTAR was slow to begin. Shortly after the start, ROUND THE WORLD shifted out and bumped FORTUNE LIFE. Making the turn at the 1200 Metres, KING OF SPADES, which was proving difficult to settle, was awkwardly placed between SIXTY SECONDS and ON THE TEE. At the 1000 Metres, SIXTY SECONDS bumped the running rail when crowded for room inside KING OF SPADES which when continuing to prove difficult to settle got its head up when awkwardly placed inside ON THE TEE which momentarily shifted in slightly. No action was taken. After making the turn at the 600 Metres, FORTUNE SMILES hung out. Shortly after straightening, TURF LUCK was steadied and shifted in when disappointed for running between KING OF SPADES and SIXTY SECONDS which shifted out. In the Straight, KING OF SPADES hung in and just prior to the winning post was steadied away from the heels of FORTUNE LIFE which shifted in to obtain clear running. EXULTATION was sent for a clinical veterinary examination. After the race, EXULTATION was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said an endoscopic examination showed a significant amount of mucus in the horse's trachea. Before being allowed to race again, EXULTATION will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. C Williams (FORTUNE LIFE) said last start when ridden in a forward position FORTUNE LIFE failed to finish its race off, therefore tonight he was told to ride the horse in a rearward position. He said he did this and followed KING OF SPADES in the run, however, when that horse failed to improve near the 600 Metres he shifted out to follow SUPER WONGCHOY and raced inside LUCKY SUPERSTAR. He said he remained in this position until straightening when he endeavoured to shift out to obtain a run between those two horses by edging LUCKY SUPERSTAR out, however, as that horse was in front of him, he was unable to do so. He said he remained held up for running behind SUPER WONGCHOY and inside the heels of LUCKY SUPERSTAR for some distance after straightening, he then shifted to the inside of SUPER WONGCHOY in the hope that he might obtain running between that horse and ON THE TEE. He said he was again disappointed for this run and as he shifted in, running then presented itself between SUPER WONGCHOY and LUCKY SUPERSTAR, so he again shifted FORTUNE LIFE out, however, as he did this SUPER WONGCHOY shifted out in front of him, so he again changed to the inside of that horse to go forward. He said because of the circumstances FORTUNE LIFE was not tested. FORTUNE SMILES and PRINCE GOLF were sent for sampling.
