Racing Incident Report
After being boxed, PRO JOY became fractious, then began awkwardly, shifted out abruptly across the running of BIG SHOT which as a result was severely checked. Inconvenience was also caused to NICKU NICKU which had drawn outside BIG SHOT. Before being allowed to race again, PRO JOY will have to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial. SURE FORTUNE was slow to begin. Approaching the 800 Metres, SURE FORTUNE was reluctant to hold its position to the inside of GETMORE DANCER (W Smith) when racing in restricted room. As the Stewards were satisfied W Smith had his horse's head turned out in an attempt to relieve the pressure, no action was taken. For some distance approaching and passing the 600 Metres, SING AND DRINK, which was proving difficult to settle, was awkwardly placed close to the heels of X-SPEED. At the 600 Metres, SURE FORTUNE was steadied when crowded for room between GETMORE DANCER which shifted out slightly away from the heels of SING AND DRINK and C'EST LA VIE which was carried in slightly by BABY KING. No action was taken. At the 500 Metres, C'EST LA VIE, which was being shifted out across the heels of BABY KING, became unbalanced. PRO JOY, which was following, was steadied. Prior to straightening, GETMORE DANCER was steadied away from the heels of SING AND DRINK. After the 400 Metres, X-SPEED was bumped by TOP HEALTH. Near the 300 Metres, SURE FORTUNE was steadied when disappointed for running between SING AND DRINK which shifted out slightly and DESERT ROMEO which was giving ground. Near the 100 Metres, BABY KING, which was commencing to give ground, was steadied when crowded for room between NICKU NICKU which shifted in slightly and ATHLETIC GOLD (W Woods) which shifted out whilst being ridden along. W Woods was told in similar circumstances he would be expected to stop riding and straighten his mount sooner than he did on this occasion. Also near the 100 Metres, W Woods dropped his left rein. Despite making several attempts to re-gather this rein, W Woods was unable to do so prior to the winning post. SING AND DRINK, ATHLETIC GOLD and NICKU NICKU were sent for sampling. After the race, it was noted X-SPEED had sustained a small laceration to the outside of the left fore knee.
