Racing Incident Report

As the gates opened, DRAGON HORSE, which had been fractious, put its head down and consequently was slow to begin and then on jumping again put its head down and lost further ground. HOROSCOPE was slow to begin and shortly afterwards was steadied away from the heels of NAMJONG TREASURE. After the 700 Metres, NAMJONG TREASURE was steadied away from the heels of SUPER FANTASY which shifted in when only just clear. Making the turn at the 600 Metres, NAMJONG TREASURE continued to race close to the heels of SUPER FANTASY. Near the 600 Metres, MASTER YING was bumped by EVER MORE which shifted out after being checked away from the heels of HIGHLILLI which dropped the bit and lost further ground after being momentarily steadied away from the heels of DOWN FOR THE COUNT after that horse crossed to the lead. Making the Home Turn, EVER MORE became unbalanced. Near the 250 Metres, SENSIBLE WAY jumped a mark on the track. Over about the final 50 Metres, MONEY STRONG was unable to obtain clear running between SUPER FANTASY and MASTER YING. As a result, MONEY STRONG was not ridden out to the line. When questioned regarding his riding in the early part of the Straight, Apprentice P H Lo (HOROSCOPE) said he was instructed to make his running towards the inside, therefore after making the Home Turn he ensured HOROSCOPE was properly balanced before commencing to ride it out hands and heels. He said when being ridden out hands and heels, HOROSCOPE responded only fairly and over about the last 100 Metres he was close to the heels of SUPER FANTASY and therefore was not able to ride his mount out to the end of the line. Mr C H Yip, the trainer of HOROSCOPE, confirmed the instructions and said it is his intention now to step the horse up in distance when it next races and he will endeavour to obtain the services of a senior rider. He explained he had sought the services of several senior riders for tonight's race, however, none of these riders accepted the engagement. Apprentice P H Lo, in the presence of his allocated trainer, Mr D Hill, was told in the circumstances he should have ridden with more vigour in the early part of the Straight. Mr Yip was advised he should exercise care when engaging the services of apprentice jockeys and on this occasion the running of HOROSCOPE had come under notice and he should ensure all horses trained by him are properly tested wherever possible. S Dye (DOWN FOR THE COUNT) said from a draw towards the outside tonight, in the early stages he rode the horse along vigorously to clear runners which had drawn to his inside and were showing speed. He said it was in his opinion for DOWN FOR THE COUNT to have any chance in tonight's race, it would have to lead HIGHLILLI. He said because of the effort DOWN FOR THE COUNT exerted in the early stages, the horse failed to finish the race off tonight. The explanation of S Dye was accepted. DOWN FOR THE COUNT was sent for a clinical veterinary examination. A veterinary examination of DOWN FOR THE COUNT after the race did not show any significant findings. HIGHLILLI and EVER MORE were sent for sampling.
