Racing Incident Report
SUPER BLITZ was slow to begin and then on jumping shifted out abruptly. SUNSEEN, which was standing with its head turned to the right, began awkwardly, then shortly after the start was steadied away from the heels of CLASSIC MASTER which shifted out. CHIU CHOW BROTHER and CONNOISSEUR'S LOVE were slow to begin. In the early stages, due mainly to the pace, a number of runners proved difficult to settle. The worst affected being GREEN CHANNEL, SUMMERLAND, CHIU CHOW BROTHER, CARACOLER, SPARKLING STAR and to a lesser extent NORTHERN GOLD BALL and CONNOISSEUR'S LOVE. Near the 1400 Metres, CHIU CHOW BROTHER got its head up and shifted out abruptly when close to the heels of SPARKLING STAR. This caused some inconvenience to SUNSEEN. After this incident, CHIU CHOW BROTHER, which continued to prove difficult to settle, shifted to the outside of GREEN CHANNEL and was allowed to stride forward into the lead. After the 900 Metres, SPARKLING STAR was steadied when awkwardly placed inside the heels of GREEN CHANNEL which had been throwing its head around and shifting ground. On straightening, AMBITIOUS TYCOON was bumped by SUMMERLAND which was endeavouring to shift to the outside of CHIU CHOW BROTHER to obtain clear running. Near the 300 Metres, CARACOLER and SPARKLING STAR bumped due mainly to SPARKLING STAR hanging in. SPARKLING STAR continued to hang in for the remainder of the race and proved difficult to ride out. After the 200 Metres, SUPER BLITZ, which was beginning to close the race off strongly and was having difficulty obtaining clear running, was steadied and shifted to the outside of CLASSIC MASTER to continue going forward, then over the concluding stages raced tight between CLASSIC MASTER and CHIU CHOW BROTHER. For the major part of the race, AMBITIOUS TYCOON raced wide and without cover but in a forward position. The Stewards overruled the protest/objection lodged by S Dye, the rider of MULTIWINNING, which finished 4th, against AMBITIOUS TYCOON (W M Lai) being declared the 3rd placegetter. S Dye had alleged interference to his mount over the concluding stages. The Stewards considered whilst AMBITIOUS TYCOON shifted some ground out in the concluding stages and inconvenienced MULTIWINNING, they did not consider, bearing in mind the neck margin between the two horses at the finish, that MULTIWINNING would have finished in front of AMBITIOUS TYCOON had the interference which did take place not occurred. Accordingly the Judge's placings as semaphored were confirmed. CLASSIC MASTER and SUMMERLAND were sent for a clinical veterinary examination and sampling. After the race, CLASSIC MASTER was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said the horse was lame in the left front leg and an endoscopic examination showed a significant amount of mucus in the horse's trachea. Also after the race, SUMMERLAND was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said an endoscopic examination showed a significant amount of mucus in the horse's trachea. Before being allowed to race again, CLASSIC MASTER and SUMMERLAND will both be subjected to an official veterinary examination. GREEN CHANNEL and MEDIC CORPS were sent for sampling.
