Racing Incident Report

PERFECT GALLANT was slow to begin. Near the 800 Metres, TORI TOP was checked severely and WAIALAE WIN checked when crowded for room inside KASHMAC which shifted in when awkwardly placed on the heels of PERFECT GALLANT which was being steadied away from the heels of WATCHMAN which at this time was also being steadied away from the heels of PREMIER CRU which came back as HARVEST GALA shifted out when the riderless JADE RUYI crossed to the fence. In the circumstances, no action was taken. Near the 250 Metres, MONEY EXPRESS was steadied and shifted out when disappointed for running inside HARVEST GALA. For a considerable distance after this, MONEY EXPRESS was held up and unable to obtain clear running between HARVEST GALA and AMICABLE. Near the 200 Metres, PERFECT GALLANT, which was hanging in, was awkwardly placed close to the heels of HAPPY FORTUNE which at this time was shifting out. At the 200 Metres, WAIALAE WIN, which was racing tight inside TORI TOP, was checked severely to avoid the heels of PREMIER CRU which was giving ground. The Stewards deferred the declaration of weighed-in while they considered whether JADE RUYI had had an unfair start. The official videos of the start were viewed. These showed that as the start was effected JADE RUYI reared and dislodged G Schofield, its rider. The Stewards were of the opinion that in the circumstances JADE RUYI had not had an unfair start. Therefore the horse was deemed to be a runner. Before being allowed to race again, JADE RUYI will have to perform satisfactorily in a stalls test. S Sanders (TORI TOP) said he had been instructed to ride the horse midfield with cover. He said TORI TOP was slightly slow to begin, he immediately shifted across behind runners to a position on the fence in the hope that runners drawn to his inside would go forward. He said when he did this those runners did not continue forward and consequently he got much further back than was intended. Mr Y O Wong, trainer of TORI TOP, confirmed the riding instructions issued to S Sanders and said the horse had not been racing well when being in a forward position without cover at its recent starts. He said today from a much better barrier draw it was felt TORI TOP would be better suited ridden with cover, however, it was not intended for the horse to be as far back as it was. The explanations submitted by S Sanders and Mr Wong were accepted. PREMIER CRU was sent for an official veterinary inspection. After the race, PREMIER CRU was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said an endoscopic examination showed a significant amount of mucus in the horse's trachea. Before being allowed to race again, PREMIER CRU will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. HARVEST GALA, HAPPY FORTUNE and WATCHMAN were sent for sampling. After the race, it was noted WATCHMAN had sustained a minor laceration to the right front heel and also that HAPPY FORTUNE had sustained a laceration to the right hind heel.
