Racing Incident Report
When the gates opened, TOY QUEST bounded in the air. ROMANTIC SYMPHONY was slow to begin. MY EGO began awkwardly and shortly afterwards was checked when crowded for room between OPERATION HUMOUR and DILIGENT which became unbalanced and shifted in after being bumped by SUPER PRINCE. Shortly after the start, OPERATION HUMOUR was steadied when crowded for room between MR COOL which shifted out and DILIGENT which shifted in further. Near the 1000 Metres, SUPER SPRINT got its head up and lost ground when being steadied back away from the heels of MR COOL. FLYING SUCCESS and TANAHMERAH, which were following SUPER SPRINT, were checked in consequence. Inconvenience was also caused to OPERATION HUMOUR which was carried wider and to TOY QUEST. No action was taken. Making the turn at the 800 Metres, MR COOL hung out, then at the 500 Metres hung out badly after being brushed by BUMPER BUMPER. In the early part of the Straight, SUPER PRINCE hung out. Near the 100 Metres, TANAHMERAH was shifted to the inside of STRONGHEART into clear running. After the 100 Metres, DILIGENT, which was giving ground, was crowded for room between SUPER SPRINT and MR COOL. For the major part of the race, STRONGHEART raced tight inside BUMPER BUMPER which was hanging in. DILIGENT and MR COOL were sent for a clinical veterinary examination. A veterinary examination of DILIGENT and MR COOL after the race did not show any significant findings. WYNDAM EASY and BUMPER BUMPER were sent for sampling.
Additional Veterinary Reports (released on 12 January 2004)
DILIGENT, which performed poorly, was examined by the Senior Veterinary Officer. He said at that time there were no significant findings. DILIGENT was again examined by the Head of Veterinary Regulation & International Liaison at the stables of Trainer K W Lui yesterday. He said at this time the horse had sustained minor wounds to the left hind hock and fetlock. Before being permitted to race again, DILIGENT will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
