Racing Incident Report

DOLBRIDGE was withdrawn on 27.1.04 on veterinary grounds (left fore infection) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter SHOW BRAVELY (G Schofield). Before being allowed to race again, DOLBRIDGE will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. SHOW BRAVELY, which was to be ridden at the rear from the outside gate tonight, was immediately steadied on jumping and shifted across behind runners. Shortly after the start, C'EST LA VIE made contact with the hindquarters of SIXTY SECONDS. Near the 1600 Metres, NATURAL ECHO was steadied when momentarily crowded for room inside C'EST LA VIE. In the early stages, GOOD BOY, which was racing three wide and without cover, proved difficult to settle. At the 400 Metres and again prior to straightening, THISTLEJADE became unbalanced and dipped. On straightening, BROWN BEAUTY got its head on the side, shifted in and was steadied away from the heels of GOOD BOY. Near the 200 Metres, NATURAL ECHO, which was having difficulty obtaining running, was steadied and shifted to the outside of BROWN BEAUTY. SHOW BRAVELY, which was following, was momentarily steadied away from the heels of NATURAL ECHO. R Fradd (ALBELA) said last start from a barrier towards the inside he rode the horse with cover in about midfield as in his opinion when racing without cover ALBELA had not been finishing its races off. He said tonight from a gate towards the outside it was again decided ALBELA would be best suited ridden with cover. He said after beginning well he immediately steadied the horse in an attempt to find a position with cover around midfield, however, he was unable to do so and because of this was required to take the horse back to be towards the rear where it raced three wide but with cover. R Fradd said tonight ALBELA failed to close the race off and in his opinion was disappointing. ALBELA was sent for a clinical veterinary examination. A veterinary examination of ALBELA after the race did not show any significant findings. G Mossé (NATURAL ECHO) said the horse was a little slow to begin, then shortly afterwards he steadied as C'EST LA VIE shifted in towards him. He said as a result of these incidents NATURAL ECHO got further back than was anticipated. NATURAL ECHO, OPTIC CHIEF and DONGGUAN VICTORY were sent for sampling.
Additional Veterinary Reports (released on 29 January 2004)
ALBELA, which performed poorly, was examined by the Senior Veterinary Officer. He said at that time there were no significant findings. ALBELA was again examined by the Senior Veterinary Officer at the stables of Trainer D E Ferraris this morning. He said at this time the horse was noted to be moving very stiffly behind with significant rump muscle soreness. Before being allowed to race again, ALBELA will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
