Racing Incident Report

TAIJI SPIRIT was slow to begin. Making the turn at the 600 Metres, PORTER RICKS hung out. After the 600 Metres, EASY KING was awkwardly placed close to the heels of ETERNAL START which shifted to the fence when only just clear. Near the 100 Metres, DEEP LAUGH was steadied and shifted to the outside of GOLDEN FARM which was giving ground to obtain clear running. After the 100 Metres, CLASSIC WIN was steadied away from the heels of EASY KING which when giving ground shifted out away from DEEP LAUGH which improved on its inside. R Fradd (RAINBOW DIAMOND) explained rounding the Home Turn he remained on the inner as there was always running to the inside of DEEP LAUGH. He said the horse commenced to close the race off strongly after the 200 Metres and improved quickly inside DEEP LAUGH, however, then became held up and unable to obtain clear running behind ETERNAL START and to the inside of GOLDEN FARM, both of which were giving ground. He said near the 100 Metres he checked RAINBOW DIAMOND when disappointed for running inside ETERNAL START, shifted to the outside of that horse to obtain clear running and in doing so bumped GOLDEN FARM. The explanation submitted by R Fradd was accepted. S K Sit (GIFTED RUNNER) explained he had been riding the horse in its recent work and in his opinion this work was just satisfactory, however, he pointed out the horse had become unbalanced in its action when at work. He said tonight he was instructed to have GIFTED RUNNER in a forward position, however, it did not have sufficient speed from the start and got much further back than was anticipated. He said in the final 300 Metres GIFTED RUNNER became unbalanced in its action and did not respond to his riding. Mr K W Lui, trainer of GIFTED RUNNER, said the stable had given the horse a good chance in tonight's race based on its track work which he felt was satisfactory. He said watching tonight's race GIFTED RUNNER in the Straight appeared unbalanced in its action and previously D Whyte who had ridden the horse had explained to him GIFTED RUNNER often became unbalanced in its action when changing stride. GIFTED RUNNER was sent for a clinical veterinary examination. A veterinary examination of GIFTED RUNNER after the race did not show any significant findings. Before being allowed to race again, GIFTED RUNNER will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. A Marcus (EASY KING) said the horse began well and travelled in a forward position as anticipated until entering the Home Straight when he shifted out to improve his position, it failed to respond to his riding. He said in his opinion even though the horse had won on rain affected ground, EASY KING did not handle tonight's track conditions. EASY KING was sent for a clinical veterinary examination and sampling. After the race, EASY KING was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said there were no significant findings. SUN POWER and TAIJI SPIRIT were sent for sampling.
