Racing Incident Report

After being boxed, HOT PRACTITIONER became fractious and broke through, then travelled a short distance before being reined in. HOT PRACTITIONER was returned to the Start, examined by the Veterinary Surgeon and after the necessary consultations was considered suitable to race. Before being allowed to race again, HOT PRACTITIONER will have to perform satisfactorily in a stalls test. DOLPHIN STAR began very awkwardly and as a result lost ground at the start. NORTHERN FLYER began awkwardly and bumped the outside gate of its stall, then was steadied away from the hindquarters of MAGNIFICENT. CORNWALL CHIEFS and DOLBRIDGE were slow to begin. On jumping, PLEASANT JOURNEY was bumped by FIRST KNIGHT which shifted in. Near the 600 Metres, FIRST KNIGHT was awkwardly placed close to the heels of MAGNIFICENT. Just prior to straightening, BEST EVER, which was endeavouring to shift out to find clear running, was steadied away from the heels of KING OF FIELD which was giving ground. Near the 300 Metres, TRI-STAR became unbalanced and shifted out abruptly when being shifted to the outside of the heels of KIWI DASH. After the 200 Metres, FIRST KNIGHT raced tight outside the hindquarters of MAGNIFICENT which had its head on the side and was inclined to be hanging out. In the Straight, NEW CENTURY hung in. D Whyte (KING OF FIELD) said the horse's work leading into the race had been good and since its change of stable the horse appeared to have bulked up. He said tonight during the preliminary and again behind the barriers KING OF FIELD was at times difficult and seemed unsettled. He said KING OF FIELD travelled only fairly in the early stages and was a beaten horse at the 600 Metres, however, he was unable to offer any explanation for the performance of the horse. KING OF FIELD was sent for a clinical veterinary examination and sampling. A veterinary examination of KING OF FIELD after the race did not show any significant findings. Before being allowed to race again, KING OF FIELD will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. TELECOM TYCOON and CORNWALL CHIEFS were sent for sampling. After the race, it was noted FIRST KNIGHT had lost its right hind plate.
