Racing Incident Report

After arriving at the Start, the tongue ties on HELENE ELEGANCE and HEALTHY FRUITS were refitted. When the gates opened, GRASS HOPPER bounded in the air and consequently lost ground. DRAGON HORSE began awkwardly, bumped the outside gate of its stall and shortly afterwards was further inconvenienced when crowded for room between HELENE ELEGANCE and GRAND FIGHTER which on jumping shifted out abruptly. As a result of being bumped, HELENE ELEGANCE became unbalanced behind. After this, DRAGON HORSE shifted in and bumped GRAND FIGHTER which as a result lost ground. GOT IT GOOD bounded in the air at the start. After the 600 Metres, BILLET EXPRESS was steadied when crowded for room inside DOWN FOR THE COUNT which at this time got its head on the side and hung in. HELENE ELEGANCE, which was following BILLET EXPRESS, was steadied in consequence. Making the turn at the 600 Metres, BOBO DUCK hung out, shifted ground and bumped SPEEDY EXPRESS which as a result became unbalanced and was carried wider. After the 500 Metres, BILLET EXPRESS was steadied away from the heels of DOWN FOR THE COUNT (S Dye) which shifted in a short distance after losing its footing and stumbling. Whilst the Stewards accepted DOWN FOR THE COUNT was unbalanced as a result of losing its footing, S Dye nevertheless was told to ensure he should at all times do his utmost to protect his fellow riders. At the 200 Metres, BILLET EXPRESS was steadied and shifted out when disappointed for running inside DOWN FOR THE COUNT. As BILLET EXPRESS was being shifted out in an endeavour to obtain clear running on the outside of DOWN FOR THE COUNT, that horse also shifted out, causing BILLET EXPRESS to be awkwardly placed on its heels and checked. After this, BILLET EXPRESS then shifted back to the inside of DOWN FOR THE COUNT into clear running. Near the winning post, DOWN FOR THE COUNT attempted to savage BILLET EXPRESS. Mr J Size, trainer of DOWN FOR THE COUNT, was told a warning would be placed on the horse for attempting to savage and should it perform similarly in future, action may be taken. D Whyte (BILLET EXPRESS) explained for him to have ridden forward after the 700 Metres and to have consolidated his position inside DOWN FOR THE COUNT prior to that horse shifting in near the 600 Metres in his opinion would have resulted in him making too much use of the horse, therefore he elected to sit in the hope that he would be able to maintain his position on the rail with DOWN FOR THE COUNT racing forward of him but to his outside. He said however as a result of being inconvenienced after the 600 Metres and again after the 500 Metres he then raced in a position behind DOWN FOR THE COUNT into the Home Straight. SPEEDY EXPRESS and DOWN FOR THE COUNT were sent for a clinical veterinary examination. After the race, SPEEDY EXPRESS was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said an endoscopic examination showed a significant amount of mucus in the horse's trachea. Before being allowed to race again, SPEEDY EXPRESS will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. A veterinary examination of DOWN FOR THE COUNT after the race did not show any significant findings. BILLET EXPRESS, HELENE ELEGANCE and GRASS HOPPER were sent for sampling.
