Racing Incident Report

On arriving at the holding stables, it was noted RESOURCEFUL PRINCE had shifted its left fore plate. This plate was re-set. The horse was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said it was suitable to race. MODERN PROSPECT was very slow to begin. FORTUNE LIFE began awkwardly, struck the outside gate of its stall and consequently lost ground. BOBO DUCK shifted in at the start and bumped FIGHTING MASCOT. Approaching the 1200 Metres, FIGHTING MASCOT raced tight for a short distance inside NILOMETER. For some distance passing the 1000 Metres, TANAHMERAH commenced to race keenly and shifted out to avoid the heels of NILOMETER. Making the turn at the 600 Metres, AHEAD A HEAD brushed the running rail after shifting in away from SHINING DRAGON which itself was hanging in. Rounding the Home Turn, WISE CHOICE was carried wider when WINNING SUNSHINE shifted out. In the Straight, KING OF FISH hung out and over the concluding stages shifted out, resulting in its rider, S Dye, being obliged to stop riding with the whip and straighten his mount. When KING OF FISH shifted out WINNING SUNSHINE, which was racing to its outside, was inconvenienced. RESOURCEFUL PRINCE raced wide and without cover throughout the race and in the Straight gave ground. Y T Cheng (WISE CHOICE), which was ridden more forward tonight, said he had been instructed by the horse's trainer, Mr K L Man, to come across with AHEAD A HEAD which had drawn to its inside and endeavour to find cover. Mr S Woods, trainer of SHINING DRAGON, was questioned regarding that horse, which was ridden quietly at its most recent start, being ridden along in the early stages to be racing outside of the leader KING OF FISH. He said unlike its last start he did not feel the pace would be as strong in tonight's race having in mind that one of the leaders namely AHEAD A HEAD was drawn to SHINING DRAGON's immediate outside. He said he had instructed S K Sit, the rider of SHINING DRAGON, to ensure the horse began well, but if he was unable to lead to try and obtain a position with cover. WINNING SUNSHINE, FIGHTING MASCOT and KING OF FISH were sent for sampling.
