Racing Incident Report

MULTI MILLIONS was withdrawn on 4.10.05 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (fever). Before being allowed to race again, MULTI MILLIONS will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. Prior to the running of Race 1, it was noted THOUSAND WINS had lost its right front plate in the holding stalls. THOUSAND WINS was re-plated and examined by the Veterinary Officer who said in his opinion it was suitable to race. As the gates opened, BRILLIANT FLASH, which had been fractious in its stall, began awkwardly and bumped the outside gate, as a consequence lost ground. CHINSOLA from a gate towards the outside was restrained on jumping and taken back across behind runners. On jumping, SUNBELL was crowded for room between EVERGREEN and PRESENT TREASURE, both of which shifted ground. Passing the winning post on the first occasion, CHEERFUL HEART, which had been ridden along, got its head up when being steadied away from the heels of MR COOL. SURVEYOR, which was following, was steadied in consequence. In the early and middle stages, ELEPHANT DANCE raced wide and without cover. O Doleuze (EVERGREEN) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that near the 1100 Metres he permitted his mount to shift in when not clear of PROGRESSING TIMES, causing that horse to be carried in and caused crowding on its inside to CHEERFUL HEART which as a result was checked. O Doleuze was suspended from riding in races for a period to expire on Sunday 23 October 2005 on which day he may resume race riding (2 Hong Kong race days). The commencement of the suspension was deferred until after the Sha Tin racemeeting on Sunday 16 October 2005. In addition, O Doleuze was fined $35,000 in lieu of a suspension for a period incorporating 1 further raceday. When CHEERFUL HEART checked, inconvenience was also caused to BRILLIANT FLASH which was checked and SURVEYOR which was steadied. Making the turn at the 1000 Metres, SURVEYOR got its head up when being steadied away from the heels of PRESENT TREASURE. Also making the turn at the 1000 Metres, CHINSOLA raced awkwardly when close to the heels of CHEERFUL HEART. Near the 900 Metres, CHEERFUL HEART was steadied away from the heels of PROGRESSING TIMES. At the 500 Metres, ELEPHANT DANCE was steadied when disappointed for running between EVERGREEN and THOUSAND WINS. After the 500 Metres, BRILLIANT FLASH was bumped by SURVEYOR which shifted out to improve. As a result of this, BRILLIANT FLASH which had been racing wide and without cover was carried wider. After the 200 Metres, CHINSOLA, which was beginning to close the race off, was steadied and shifted out when disappointed for running inside CHEERFUL HEART. After the 100 Metres, ELEPHANT DANCE was struck under the jaw by the whip of E Saint-Martin (SURVEYOR). C Brown (PRESENT TREASURE), which performed poorly, said his mount was a little uncomfortable in the early stages due to the muddling pace. He said however after reaching the 1000 Metres PRESENT TREASURE relaxed underneath him and travelled comfortably until near the 600 Metres. He said at that stage he placed PRESENT TREASURE under pressure, the horse failed to respond to his riding and he was unable to offer any explanation for the performance. PRESENT TREASURE was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of PRESENT TREASURE after the race did not show any significant findings. SUNBELL, MR COOL and THOUSAND WINS were sent for sampling.
