Racing Incident Report

FANTASTIC WIN began awkwardly and was then steadied away from the heels of SEA TREASURE. PACIFIC ALLIANCE was slow to begin. At the 1400 Metres, GIDDY KIPPER was steadied when awkwardly placed outside PACIFIC ALLIANCE and close to the heels of SEA TREASURE. Near the 900 Metres, COTTON BALL was checked to avoid the heels of HEROIC ATTRIBUTE (Apprentice P H Lo) which shifted in when not properly clear. Apprentice Lo was severely reprimanded and told to exercise greater care. Near the 500 Metres, HEROIC ATTRIBUTE, which commenced to give ground, was momentarily steadied to avoid the heels of COTTON BALL which at this time got its head on the side and shifted in. At the 400 Metres, GIDDY KIPPER was crowded for room between HEROIC ATTRIBUTE which was giving ground and SEA TREASURE which lay in after being bumped on the hindquarters by GIDDY KIPPER. No action was taken. At the 200 Metres, LAZY BUDDIES was momentarily awkwardly placed inside the heels of SOARING ANGEL which was giving ground. W M Lai (X-SPEED) explained it was anticipated the pace of today's race would be strong and therefore he should endeavour to ride the horse with cover as he did at its most recent start. He said X-SPEED today began well, in an endeavour to carry out his instructions he did not ride X-SPEED along and hoped to obtain a position with cover, however, he was not able to do so when GIDDY KIPPER held its position on his inside making the first turn. He said entering the Back Straight he obtained a position behind SEA TREASURE, however, was slightly further back than he had intended. He said in the Straight X-SPEED initially responded to his riding, however, over the concluding stages was one-paced. SUPER IDEAL was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of SUPER IDEAL after the race did not show any significant findings. The performance of SUPER IDEAL, which finished tailed out, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, SUPER IDEAL will have to perform competitively in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. SEA TREASURE and TEMMOKU were sent for sampling. After the race, the Veterinary Officer reported COTTON BALL had sustained a laceration to the right hind leg. Before being allowed to race again, COTTON BALL will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
