Racing Incident Report

After the entire field had been boxed, MERIDIAN STAR kicked out behind. This caused PERFECT PARTNER to become unsettled, lunge forward and break through the front gates of its stall. F Coetzee, the rider of PERFECT PARTNER, was dislodged. PERFECT PARTNER completed the course riderless. Acting on veterinary advice that PERFECT PARTNER was not suitable to race, the Stewards ordered the withdrawal of the horse. Before being allowed to race again, PERFECT PARTNER will have to perform satisfactorily in a stalls test. GREAT DELIGHT began awkwardly and shifted in, causing some crowding to THE DUKE. SATURN was a little slow to begin. At the 1200 Metres, HIGH INTELLIGENT, which because of the pace had been proving difficult to settle, was steadied when close to the heels of SUPER KID which shifted in to a two wide position as STAY YOUNG which was racing on its inside shifted to the fence. HIGH INTELLIGENT when being steadied away from the heels of SUPER KID shifted out abruptly, causing inconvenience to THE DUKE which as a result was checked. AIN'T HERE, which was following THE DUKE, was hampered in consequence. Because of the circumstances, no action was taken. After this, HIGH INTELLIGENT was allowed to stride forward and cross to race outside GREAT DELIGHT in the lead. Making the turn at the 800 Metres, again because of the pace, SUPER KID became unbalanced when being steadied away from the heels of FIGURES which itself was steadied away from the heels of HIGH INTELLIGENT. Also making the turn at the 800 Metres, MERIDIAN STAR got its head up and raced ungenerously when close to the heels of PALETTE NATURAL. On several occasions near the 700 Metres, THE DUKE and SUPER KID made contact as a result of SUPER KID shifting towards the outside of FIGURES. At the 600 Metres, MERIDIAN STAR was steadied when disappointed for running between PALETTE NATURAL and BULLISH LUCK. After the 300 Metres, PALETTE NATURAL was held up and unable to improve between THE DUKE and AIN'T HERE. For some distance approaching the 200 Metres, MERIDIAN STAR and STAY YOUNG were held up and unable to improve. Also approaching the 200 Metres, to obtain clear running, ELEGANT FASHION was shifted to the inside of HIGH INTELLIGENT which at this time shifted out. At the 200 Metres, PALETTE NATURAL was shifted to the outside of AIN'T HERE to obtain clear running. In the Straight, SUPER KID hung in, near the 100 Metres shifted ground and bumped FIGURES. After the 100 Metres, MERIDIAN STAR was again held up and unable to improve when close to the heels of THE DUKE. SUPER KID was sent for an official veterinary inspection and sampling. A veterinary inspection of SUPER KID after the race did not show any significant findings. BULLISH LUCK and AIN'T HERE were sent for sampling.
