Racing Incident Report

After arriving at the Start, DR HAENSLER was examined by the Veterinary Surgeon. The horse was trotted up and after the necessary consultations was considered suitable to race. CITY GLORY was slow to begin, then on jumping began awkwardly and as a consequence lost a considerable amount of ground. TAIJI SPIRIT was slow to begin. Making the turn at the 800 Metres, SALUT BEAUTE, which was racing wide and without cover, was steadied and shifted out away from the heels of AFRICAN FOREST. Making the turn after the 800 Metres, MAGNIFICENT HORSE hung out and prior to making the Home Turn hung out badly and was awkwardly placed close to the heels of MILLION CHASE. In the early part of the Straight, SAND DANCE was unable to obtain clear running between AFRICAN FOREST and SALUT BEAUTE. Near the 300 Metres, SAND DANCE was shifted towards the outside of SALUT BEAUTE in an attempt to find clear running, however, as it did this, SALUT BEAUTE shifted out, resulting in SAND DANCE being disappointed for running and checked away from the heels of SALUT BEAUTE. After the 200 Metres, AFRICAN FOREST, which was giving ground, was steadied when crowded for room inside DR HAENSLER which was carried in by SAND DANCE which at this time shifted to the inside of SALUT BEAUTE. No action was taken. Just prior to the winning post, KINGSTON GLORY was steadied away from the heels of MILLION CHASE. R Fradd (DR HAENSLER) said he had never ridden the horse previously and had been informed prior to the race that the horse tends to run freely and then not finishes its race off. He said he had further been told when running freely DR HAENSLER can prove difficult to control and accordingly he was instructed to endeavour to ride the horse with some cover in an attempt to have it settled. He said bearing in mind those instructions after beginning fairly he immediately steadied DR HAENSLER, the horse got its head up and he shifted across behind runners to race on the fence albeit near the rear. He said during the run DR HAENSLER travelled satisfactorily and as a result of being ridden in this manner was able to close the race off fairly which it had not done at its only previous start. The explanation submitted by R Fradd was accepted. D Whyte (TAIJI SPIRIT) explained about 20 Metres before the finish he had to stop riding his mount along for one stride as DIAMOND AND GOLD which was just clear of him shifted out across his running. He said for him to have continued riding along would have put him on the heels of DRAGON AND GOLD. The Stewards accepted D Whyte's explanation. DRAGON AND GOLD and SAND DANCE were sent for sampling. After the race, it was reported FLYING EAGLE had bled from both nostrils.
