Racing Incident Report

BEST LUCK was slow to begin. DASHING WINNER began awkwardly, got its head up and was then crowded for room between SANBENITO which was carried in by INVERNESS and KING HESPERUS which was carried out by SPARKLING STAR. At the 1000 Metres, FIFTY FIFTY, which was proving difficult to settle, got its head up when being steadied away from the heels of JOLLY GOOD FORTUNE which shifted in when only just clear. Approaching and passing the 300 Metres, BEST LUCK was held up and unable to improve when racing behind JOLLY GOOD FORTUNE. Near the 200 Metres, BEST LUCK was shifted to the inside of JOLLY GOOD FORTUNE to go forward. Throughout the race, TOP HONOR raced wide and without cover and in the Straight gave ground. M Rodd (FANTASY) said he had discussed the manner in which the horse should be ridden with the trainer prior to the race and it had been decided there did not appear to be a lot of pace in the race, therefore from the outside draw he should allow his mount to travel forward in the early stages and endeavour to obtain a position somewhere around midfield with cover. INVERNESS was sent for an official veterinary inspection. After the race, INVERNESS, which gave ground in the Straight, was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said the horse was displaying an irregular heart beat. Before being allowed to race again, INVERNESS will have to perform competitively in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. SANBENITO and FIFTY FIFTY were sent for sampling.
