Racing Incident Report

RUSSIAN PEARL began awkwardly and lost ground. LIGHTNING STAR was slow to begin. When the gates opened, GREEN TREASURE lifted its front feet in the air and lost ground. In the early stages, RED POWER proved difficult to settle and on a number of occasions got its head up. Near the 1700 Metres, RUSSIAN PEARL, which had improved into a position inside RED POWER, was checked away from the heels of VENGEANCE OF RAIN. After the 1600 Metres, ABLE KNIGHT was checked to avoid the heels of FOKINE which after crossing to the fence in the lead steadied. At the 1400 Metres, SAMBUCA was checked when crowded for room between FIFTY FIFTY and ABLE KNIGHT which at this time shifted out when being checked away from the heels of FOKINE which steadied to allow HIGH INTELLIGENT to cross to the lead. GREEN TREASURE, which was following SAMBUCA, was checked and some inconvenience was caused to VENGEANCE OF RAIN and GRAND ZULU. After the 600 Metres, ABLE NIGHT was steadied away from the heels of FIFTY FIFTY. On straightening, SAMBUCA and GRAND ZULU bumped on two occasions. After the 300 Metres, the whip of O Doleuze (GREEN TREASURE) was knocked from his hand by the whip of D Dunn (SAMBUCA). Over the concluding stages, HIGH INTELLIGENT shifted out. Mr A T Millard, the trainer of SAMBUCA, was questioned as to the reason for the horse not being presented in the Parade Ring for saddling at the required time. The matter will be further reviewed prior to being completed. SAMBUCA, VENGEANCE OF RAIN and RUSSIAN PEARL were sent for sampling.
