Racing Incident Report

FABULOUS stood flat-footed at the start and consequently got well back. MILLION SUCCESS was checked at the start when crowded for room between DIVINE FEELING and ONE EYE JACK which shifted out abruptly. In this incident, MILLION SUCCESS bumped the hindquarters of DIVINE FEELING which became unbalanced and shifted out, making contact with MADE IN HONGKONG. Making the Home Turn on the first occasion, KASHMAC raced tight inside MILLION SUCCESS which shifted in when being steadied away from the heels of DASH FOR VICTORIES. O Chavez (DASH FOR VICTORIES) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that near the 1600 Metres he permitted his mount to shift in when not clear of MILLION SUCCESS, causing that horse to be checked and in turn shift in onto CUPID which was crowded for room. O Chavez was suspended from riding in races for a period to expire on Sunday 19 June 2005 on which day he may resume race riding (2 Hong Kong race days). The commencement of the suspension was deferred until after the Sha Tin racemeeting next Sunday 12 June 2005. In addition, O Chavez was fined $10,000 in lieu of a suspension for a period incorporating 1 further raceday. Near the 900 Metres, DIVINE FEELING was steadied when awkwardly placed on the heels of MADE IN HONGKONG. Shortly after entering the Straight, LUCKY BIRD shifted in and brushed the running rail. For a short distance near the 300 Metres, CUPID was held up when awkwardly placed inside the heels of CASH SURPRISE when obtaining a run to the inside of that horse. Near the 200 Metres, MILLION SUCCESS shifted out. For the majority of the race, SPEED WINNER travelled wide and without cover. When questioned regarding his riding of LUCKY BIRD particularly from the 700 Metres, Apprentice K W Tsui stated at the 700 Metres he was travelling at the rear of the field which is usual and a number of lengths behind the horse immediately ahead of him, FABULOUS. He added passing the 700 Metres he slapped LUCKY BIRD down the shoulder with the whip in an endeavour to have the horse improve the ground between his mount and FABULOUS, however, LUCKY BIRD was initially reluctant to improve its position. He further added passing the 500 Metres he commenced to ride his horse along more vigorously, the horse then responded to his riding and finished the race off well. Apprentice Tsui was told he should have made more of an effort to improve his position from the 700 Metres and tack onto the field and in similar circumstances he would be expected to show more initiative than he did on this occasion. When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of ONE EYE JACK, G Mossé was unable to offer any excuse as the horse in his opinion enjoyed a nice run but in the Straight did not respond to his riding. SPEED WINNER and DASH FOR VICTORIES were sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of SPEED WINNER and DASH FOR VICTORIES after the race did not show any significant findings. ONE EYE JACK, CASH SURPRISE and CUPID were sent for sampling.
