Racing Incident Report

After being boxed, ETERNAL DRAGON endeavoured to break out underneath the front gates of its stall and became trapped. ETERNAL DRAGON was examined by the Veterinary Surgeon who said in his opinion it was not suitable to race. Acting on this advice, the Stewards ordered the withdrawal of ETERNAL DRAGON. Before being allowed to race again, ETERNAL DRAGON will have to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. PO ON GEM was slow to begin. On jumping, SOLDIER ON and ELFHELM bumped. QUEST FOR LOVE was a little slow to begin and was then bumped by TOP BRASS which shifted in. After this, TOP BRASS from the outside barrier was steadied and shifted back across behind runners and for some distance proved difficult to settle, then after the 900 Metres was steadied away from the heels of QUEST FOR LOVE which at this time hung out. Passing the 300 Metres, TOP BRASS had some difficulty obtaining clear running between QUEST FOR LOVE and SOLDIER ON, then for some distance approaching and passing the 200 Metres TOP BRASS raced tight outside SOLDIER ON which was shifting out away from the heels of BRAVE COMMANDER which was giving ground. After the 200 Metres, PO ON GEM, which was closing the race off, was momentarily steadied when endeavouring to improve into a narrow run on the inside of DANSING FUN. Throughout the race, BRAVE COMMANDER raced wide and without cover. A Delpech (QUEST FOR LOVE) was unable to offer any explanation for the horse's poor performance. He said in the lead up to today's race QUEST FOR LOVE's track work had been good and it was felt that the horse had improved since its first up run. He said QUEST FOR LOVE got well back as anticipated and enjoyed a comfortable run, however, after straightening when placed under pressure failed to respond to his riding in the same manner it did at its prior start. QUEST FOR LOVE was sent for an official veterinary inspection and sampling. A veterinary inspection of QUEST FOR LOVE after the race did not show any significant findings. THISTLE KING and UNIVERSAL PIONEER were sent for sampling.
