Racing Incident Report

SUPER DANA began awkwardly and shifted out, resulting in MAXIMUS being taken out onto BROWN BEAUTY which was steadied off the heels of SUNDAY DELIGHT. SNIPER began awkwardly, shifted in and made contact with the side of its stall. SPECTACULAR HIT began awkwardly. Making the first turn at the 2000 Metres, MAXIMUS raced tight inside WATCHMAN. Shortly after entering the Straight on the first occasion, MILLION SUCCESS, which was being steadied to obtain a position behind SUPER DANA, got its head up when that horse shifted in. COTTON BALL, which was following, was checked to avoid the heels of MILLION SUCCESS and shifted out. WATCHMAN, which was following COTTON BALL, briefly improved inside the heels of COTTON BALL and near the 1600 Metres was checked off the heels of COTTON BALL which shifted back in. For some distance after this, MILLION SUCCESS threw its head in the air and refused to settle. HAPPY CONTENDER, which was racing three wide and without cover, lay in near the 1600 Metres and briefly tightened SNIPER. Near the 1000 Metres, MAXIMUS raced tight inside SPECTACULAR HIT which itself was awkwardly placed inside HAPPY CONTENDER which hung in at this point. BROWN BEAUTY, which was following MAXIMUS, was hampered in consequence. HAPPY CONTENDER then continued to race wide and without cover until the 600 Metres when it was able to obtain cover behind SPECTACULAR HIT. HAPPY CONTENDER then got its head on the side and lay in for the remainder of the race. O Doleuze (PACIFIC ALLIANCE) was reprimanded for having SOARING ANGEL race in restricted room to his inside for some distance approaching the 600 Metres. Rounding the Home Turn, WATCHMAN was steadied when awkwardly placed close to the heels of MILLION SUCCESS. Shortly after entering the Straight, MILLION SUCCESS was checked away from the heels of COTTON BALL and shifted to the outside of that horse to go forward. Approaching the 200 Metres, MAXIMUS was steadied to avoid the heels of BROWN BEAUTY (R Fradd) which shifted in when not clear. R Fradd was advised to exercise more care. Also approaching the 200 Metres, SNIPER was steadied away from the heels of PACIFIC ALLIANCE which was giving ground. Over the concluding stages, WATCHMAN shifted out under pressure, resulting in SPECTACULAR HIT being taken wider. When questioned regarding his riding of PACIFIC ALLIANCE, O Doleuze said he had been instructed to have the horse race about midfield with cover. He said PACIFIC ALLIANCE began very well and when other runners did not improve to his inside he was obliged to race more forward than had been hoped. He said turning out of the Back Straight on the first occasion he was able to obtain cover behind SUPER DANA, but when that horse shifted in at about the 1600 Metres he was left racing without cover. He said PACIFIC ALLIANCE then commenced to race keenly, so he allowed the horse to stride forward to race outside of the leader SOARING ANGEL. He said although a gap appeared behind SOARING ANGEL and in front of SUPER DANA passing the 1200 Metres on the fence, he was unable to shift in to this position due to the manner in which PACIFIC ALLIANCE was racing. He said as PACIFIC ALLIANCE continued to race keenly, he rode his mount forward at the 1100 Metres in an endeavour to go forward and cross SOARING ANGEL in the lead after which he hoped he would be able to dictate the race. He said when he rode his mount forward, SOARING ANGEL continued to race to his inside, resulting in the tempo of the race being too fast. He said as a result PACIFIC ALLIANCE was unable to finish the race off. O Doleuze was advised his explanation would be reported, however, wherever possible he was to ensure he did not set his mounts too big a task. HAPPY CONTENDER and PACIFIC ALLIANCE were sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of HAPPY CONTENDER after the race did not show any significant findings. After the race, PACIFIC ALLIANCE was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said the horse was blowing heavily. MILLION SUCCESS and SUPER DANA were sent for sampling.
