Racing Incident Report

After arriving at the Start, ON SHAN EXPRESS, which had made contact with a running rail on the way to the Start, was examined by the Veterinary Surgeon. He said in his opinion the horse was suitable to race. CAPABILITY was slow to begin. LUCKY ENCOUNTER and WING FOOT began awkwardly and bumped the inside gates of their stalls. DEVON FLAIR began awkwardly. Shortly after the start, LA MERVEILLE, which had begun awkwardly, was crowded for room between BAUHINIA which was carried in by JUST TOO GOOD and BODACIOUS which began awkwardly and shifted out. ON SHAN EXPRESS was slow to muster speed in the early stages. After passing the winning post on the first occasion, BAUHINIA was steadied when awkwardly placed inside JUST TOO GOOD which got its head on the side and shifted in away from WING FOOT. Near the 1300 Metres and again after the 1200 Metres, BODACIOUS, which was proving difficult to settle, got its head up. Making the turn at the 1000 Metres, RISING WIN got its head up when being steadied away from the heels of JUST TOO GOOD. Throughout the race, CAPABEL raced wide and without cover and in the middle stages proved difficult to settle. Near the 200 Metres, LUCKY ENCOUNTER was steadied when crowded for room between BAUHINIA and ON SHAN EXPRESS (O Doleuze) which initially was shifted out in an endeavour to obtain clear running and then was shifted further to avoid the heels of WING FOOT which when giving ground was steadied as a result of being crowded for room between DEVON FLAIR and BODACIOUS which shifted in slightly. In the circumstances, the Stewards believed it appropriate to tell O Doleuze to exercise care. Near the 100 Metres, CAPABEL, which was commencing to give ground, became unbalanced and was steadied when crowded for room between BAUHINIA which shifted out and LA MERVEILLE which shifted in. In the circumstances, no action was taken. As a result of this incident, LA MERVEILLE then shifted out and caused some inconvenience to JUST TOO GOOD. Over the concluding stages, NOBLE VICTORY hung out. When questioned regarding the poor performance of BODACIOUS, B Prebble said tonight the horse which is still an entire was fractious in the barriers, then when racing outside the lead did not concentrate throughout the race. He said he believes BODACIOUS lacks maturity and at this stage of its career is somewhat inconsistent. BODACIOUS and ON SHAN EXPRESS were sent for an official veterinary inspection. After the race, BODACIOUS was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said the horse had sustained a laceration to the left hind heel. A veterinary inspection of ON SHAN EXPRESS after the race did not show any significant findings. DEVON FLAIR, CAPABILITY and RISING WIN were sent for sampling.
