Racing Incident Report

On jumping, TIME SUPREME, GOLD FIELD and GREAT LEADER were crowded for room between SAMBUOYANT which shifted in slightly and SEASONS TREASURE which shifted out. In the middle stages, SAMBUOYANT hung out. Making the turn at the 800 Metres, TIME SUPREME got it its head up when being steadied away from the heels of MASTERY (C Munce) which shifted in when not properly clear. C Munce was severely reprimanded and advised to exercise greater care. Prior to straightening, DIAMOND ERA was steadied when crowded for room between VICTORY TREASURE and GOLD FIELD which at this time was carried out by SEASONS TREASURE (R Fradd). R Fradd was reprimanded and told to exercise greater care. At the 300 Metres, SEASONS TREASURE was steadied away from the heels of COME HO CHOI which was giving ground. At the 250 Metres, CONNOISSEUR'S LOVE, which was giving ground, was steadied when momentarily crowded for room between VICTORY TREASURE which shifted out and VITALITY CHAMP. At the 100 Metres, GOLD FIELD was steadied when unable to continue improving between AMBITIOUS TYCOON and SYLLABUS which drifted in slightly. In the Straight, SYLLABUS hung in. When questioned, S Dye (VICTORY TREASURE) said he had been instructed to ride the horse in about 5th position if possible. He said from a wide barrier VICTORY TREASURE began well and he initially allowed the horse to travel forward, however, it soon became apparent to him that a number of runners to his inside would be ridden to go forward. He said he therefore steadied VICTORY TREASURE and shifted in to obtain a position initially behind SAMBUOYANT which he anticipated would maintain a position behind MASTERY. He said when SAMBUOYANT allowed VITALITY CHAMP to shift in in front of it near the 1000 Metres, he consequently was carried back to race with the rear which was further back than was anticipated pre-race and further back than he wished to be during the run. C Soumillon (MY LANSON), which was having its first start over 1800 Metres in Hong Kong today, explained he had been instructed to ride the horse from behind and make his run on the outside of horses in the Straight. He said it was explained to him that MY LANSON was a long striding horse that appeared better suited not racing between horses. He said he sat four wide at the rear in accordance with his instructions and he did not come back behind runners to shift to the fence as he had cover behind SAMBUOYANT and he was assured of clear running on the outside in the Straight. He said prior to straightening he shifted MY LANSON to the outside of SAMBUOYANT and the horse initially responded to his riding. He said near the 300 Metres VITALITY CHAMP shifted out and bumped MY LANSON, the horse afterwards was somewhat one-paced. He said in his opinion MY LANSON will be better suited ridden in a position midfield or better. C Munce (MASTERY) explained he had been instructed to have the horse in 5th or 6th position if possible as it was not anticipated the pace of the race would be strong. He said after beginning well he rode along and to avoid racing three wide and without cover he continued forward to shift in behind the leaders at the 1000 Metres so as to not be left racing wide without cover. VITALITY CHAMP was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of VITALITY CHAMP after the race did not show any significant findings. TIME SUPREME and SYLLABUS were sent for sampling. After the race, the Veterinary Officer reported SAMBUOYANT was making an abnormal breathing noise and an endoscopic examination did not show any significant findings.
