Racing Incident Report

GOLD SANDFIELD was slow to begin. After passing the winning post on the first occasion, KIDDYLAND got its head up when being steadied away from the heels of SYDNEY EXPRESS which shifted to a position behind SUNBELL. At the 700 Metres and again at the 500 Metres, SYDNEY EXPRESS was steadied away from the heels of SUNRISE RAINBOW. At the 500 Metres, KIDDYLAND was steadied away from the heels of SUNBELL. Making the Home Turn and in the Straight, GOLD SANDFIELD hung in and proved difficult to ride. Near the 250 Metres, KINGSTON WINNER was momentarily steadied when crowded for room between FORTUNE BOY and LUCKY DANSKE, both of which shifted ground while hanging. Consideration was given to a protest/objection lodged by C Brown, the rider of DIAMOND ERA, 2nd placegetter, against SUNBELL (G Schofield) being declared the winner for alleged interference inside the final 250 Metres. The evidence disclosed that after the 200 Metres DIAMOND ERA was steadied and shifted out when disappointed for a run between SUNBELL and FORTUNE BOY which in the opinion of the Stewards had never been properly obtained. In those circumstances, the Stewards overruled the protest/objection and the Judge's placings as semaphored were confirmed. After the 200 Metres, SUNRISE RAINBOW was steadied when crowded for room between DIAMOND ERA and KINGSTON WINNER which at this time shifted to the outside of LUCKY DANSKE. In the run to the line, KINGSTON WINNER was unable to obtain clear running between SYDNEY EXPRESS and FORTUNE BOY. Because of this, KINGSTON WINNER was not ridden out to the end of the race as it normally would be. Almost right on the winning post, GOLD SANDFIELD, which was hanging in, raced close to the heels of KIDDYLAND. Because of this, GOLD SANDFIELD was also not ridden out to the winning post as it normally would be. In the Straight, LUCKY DANSKE hung out. Throughout the race, AQUA-TREASURE travelled wide and without cover. When questioned, Apprentice K H Chan (FORTUNE BOY) said shortly after straightening his mount commenced to hang in and shift ground. He said when this occurred, he heard calling to his inside, so he straightened his mount, however, when the calling continued, he looked to his inside to ensure he was not causing interference to any runner. KINGSTON WINNER, SUNBELL and DIAMOND ERA were sent for sampling.
