Racing Incident Report

HANDBAG PREMIER was withdrawn on 10.1.06 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (blood abnormality) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter MILITARY OPTION (G Mossé). Before being allowed to race again, HANDBAG PREMIER will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. BEST POWER, which had been intended to be ridden in a forward position, on jumping was steadied when crowded for room between MILLION SUCCESS and HAPPY KID, both of which shifted ground. As a consequence, BEST POWER travelled back in the field. CAPITALAND began awkwardly and lost ground. On jumping, DON RICARDO bumped the outside gate of its stall. Shortly after the start, CAPITALAND shifted in and was steadied away from the heels of DON RICARDO. Near the 800 Metres, CAPITALAND, which was proving difficult to settle, was steadied when awkwardly placed outside the heels of DON RICARDO. On straightening, HAPPY KID became unbalanced behind after being bumped on the hindquarters by SUPER FANTASY which was carried out by TABBRIS. Shortly after straightening, EASTKOWLOON SPIRIT was steadied away from the heels of TAKING THE LEAD. At the 300 Metres, DON RICARDO was shifted to the outside of ARMONDO to obtain clear running, then near the 200 Metres was steadied away from the heels of TAKING THE LEAD. After this, DON RICARDO for the remainder of the race was unable to obtain clear running between ARMONDO and HAPPY KID which was giving ground. Because of this, DON RICARDO was not tested. Near the 100 Metres, the whip of S K Sit (HAPPY KID) was knocked from his hand by the whip of G Schofield (EASTKOWLOON SPIRIT). S K Sit explained in the early stages he was racing wide and without cover. He said after the 1100 Metres the opportunity to shift to a position behind FORTUNE BOY existed, however, he was aware that horse was hanging and shifting ground, he therefore after entering the Back Straight decided to improve around the outside of FORTUNE BOY and shift in to a position three wide outside the lead. When questioned, D Whyte (SUPER FANTASY) said turning into the Straight on the first occasion he had obtained a position on the rail behind ARMONDO. He said after passing the 1200 Metres when ARMONDO steadied to allow TABBRIS to cross in the lead, SUPER FANTASY commenced to over-race and became awkwardly placed close to the heels of ARMONDO. He said at this time FORTUNE BOY which was racing to his outside was hanging out, he therefore elected to shift away from the rail and allow SUPER FANTASY to improve on the outside of ARMONDO. He said SUPER FANTASY continued to prove difficult to settle and at the 800 Metres when HAPPY KID improved on his outside in a three wide position, he initially was going to allow that horse to cross and provide him with cover, however, at the 700 Metres he became aware HAPPY KID was not travelling well and he therefore considered the best option was to again improve inside that horse before it crossed and hold it in a three wide position. He said in the Straight SUPER FANTASY initially responded fairly to his riding, however, over the final 200 Metres did not finish the race off. SUPER FANTASY, TAKING THE LEAD and MILLION SUCCESS were sent for sampling.
