Racing Incident Report

NILOMETER was withdrawn on 21.1.06 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (lame right fore). CALIFORNIASUNSHINE was also withdrawn on 21.1.06 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (left fore tendon injury). Before being allowed to race again, NILOMETER and CALIFORNIASUNSHINE will both be subjected to an official veterinary examination. FUJI SUNRISE was slow to begin. From a gate towards the outside, NORTHERNER was immediately taken across behind runners to a position on the rail. Approaching the winning post on the first occasion, when racing wide on the track with a number of runners on its inside, LUCKSWELL was taken across behind runners. On straightening, INDUSTRIAL SUCCESS, which was commencing to give ground, became unbalanced when crowded for room between CLEAN SWEEP and LIBERAL'S CHOICE which shifted out slightly. DR WELL, which was following INDUSTRIAL SUCCESS, was checked to avoid the heels of that horse. At the 250 Metres, C Brown (MIGHTY HUGO) dropped his whip. Over the final 200 Metres, DR WELL hung in. In the Straight, SYLLABUS hung in and proved difficult to ride. Throughout the race, PRETTY TRIO raced wide and without cover. SYLLABUS was sent for an official veterinary inspection and sampling. After the race, SYLLABUS was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of mucopus in the horse's trachea. Before being allowed to race again, SYLLABUS will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. CLEAN SWEEP and LUCKSWELL were sent for sampling.
