Racing Incident Report

As C Soumillon was overweight, permission was given for G Mossé to be substituted as the rider of SURVEYOR. Having listened to the explanation from C Soumillon regarding his being overweight, the Stewards believed it appropriate in these circumstances to issue a severe reprimand. With the intention of being ridden quietly, FIREWHEEL knuckled on jumping and was then steadied. From a wide barrier, NASA PEARL was taken across behind runners. Approaching the winning post on the first occasion, TACTIC KING when being steadied got its head up, then near the 1600 Metres again got its head up when being steadied away from the heels of CELEBRATION. Making the first turn, FIREWHEEL was steadied when awkwardly placed inside the heels of DR MORE. Near the 1600 Metres, DR MORE got its head up when being steadied away from the heels of SURVEYOR. FIREWHEEL, which was following DR MORE, also got its head up. Making the turn after the 800 Metres, MEMBERS GLORY hung out. At the 350 Metres, FIREWHEEL, which had been held up and unable to improve, was steadied away from the heels of DR MORE which shifted out. In the early part of the Straight, GOLD FIELD was inclined to hang out. Because of this, at the 200 Metres, C Brown, its rider, changed the whip into his left hand. GOLD FIELD then near the 100 Metres shifted in and caused some inconvenience to SURVEYOR. When questioned, D Whyte (ALL CHANCES) said in the early stages he was travelling in a three wide position without cover when SURVEYOR held its position to his inside. He said whilst the early stages of the race were run at a steady tempo, ALL CHANCES was travelling comfortably and in his opinion to have improved his position and crossed SUDDEN SPLENDOR to race in a two wide position would have required him to make use of ALL CHANCES. He said he also noted passing the 1400 Metres SUDDEN SPLENDOR was travelling keenly and therefore he felt if he were to improve on the outside of that horse, it would have gone forward with him which would have been to the disadvantage of ALL CHANCES. DASH AHEAD was sent for an official veterinary inspection. After the race, DASH AHEAD was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea. Before being allowed to race again, DASH AHEAD will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. ALL CHANCES, ELECTRONICS SPUR and GOLD FIELD were sent for sampling.
