Racing Incident Report

SATURN was slow to begin. Making the first turn, RIVER DANCER bumped the running rail when tight inside BEST GIFT. For some distance after this, RIVER DANCER continued to be awkwardly placed inside the heels of BEST GIFT. Making the turn at the 800 Metres, DR WELL raced tight inside GREENESSY. Prior to straightening, BEST GIFT became unbalanced when awkwardly placed between RIVER DANCER which shifted out slightly and GREENESSY which was giving ground. VIVA PATACA, which was following and commencing to shift to the outside of BEST GIFT, was checked and shifted out abruptly to avoid that horse's heels. For some distance after the 400 Metres, BEST GIFT had difficulty obtaining clear running outside RIVER DANCER which shifted out and inside GREENESSY which continued to give ground. At the 150 Metres, VIVA PATACA became unbalanced and shifted out abruptly. In the run to the line, SUPER KID shifted in abruptly. Because of this, G Schofield, its rider, stopped riding and steadied away from the heels of BEST GIFT. Throughout the race, GREENESSY travelled wide and without cover and finished tailed out. The performance of GREENESSY was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, GREENESSY will have to perform competitively in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. GREENESSY was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of GREENESSY after the race did not show any significant findings. VIVA PATACA and BEST GIFT were sent for sampling. After the race, it was reported SUPER COMBED had sustained abrasion wounds to both hind fetlocks.
