Racing Incident Report

FLAME POWER and PERFECT TIME were slow to begin. With the intention of being ridden further back in the field with cover tonight, LIVERBIRD was slow to begin. After the 1600 Metres, NICKU NICKU was steadied away from the heels of CLASSA SUPREME. Passing the winning post on the first occasion, PASSION jumped a shadow, became badly unbalanced and lost ground. ALL OUR WAY, which was following, was steadied and shifted out to avoid the heels of PASSION. D Oliver, the rider of PASSION, explained after this incident, the horse did not feel comfortable in its action and he believed this accounted for the poor performance. PASSION was sent for an official veterinary inspection and sampling. After the race, PASSION was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea. Before being allowed to race again, PASSION will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. At the 1200 Metres, LIVERBIRD became unbalanced when awkwardly placed inside the heels of ALL OUR WAY. After the 500 Metres, CLASSA SUPREME commenced to hang out, made the Home Turn awkwardly and shifted wider on the track. In the Straight, when being ridden out, CLASSA SUPREME continued to shift ground. Over the concluding stages, LIVERBIRD and PERFECT TIME were awkwardly placed between LOLLIPOP and NICKU NICKU (A Starke) which drifted in. Because of this, PERFECT TIME and LIVERBIRD were not ridden out to the end of the race. A Starke was advised to exercise greater care. When questioned, J Castellano (TELECOM TYCOON) said he had been instructed to ride the horse with cover as it was anticipated the race would be run at a good tempo. He said he was further instructed to find clear running in the Home Straight to enable the horse to close the race off. He said TELECOM TYCOON began well, he allowed runners to his inside to go forward in an attempt to find a position with cover, however, when he noted LIVERBIRD being ridden to maintain its position on his inside, he allowed TELECOM TYCOON to drift further back and shift across to the fence to save ground. He said he remained racing on the fence throughout, after straightening endeavoured to find clear running towards the inside and at the 250 Metres felt an opportunity was going to present itself to improve inside FIRST KNIGHT which commenced to shift out. He said however a run inside FIRST KNIGHT did not eventuate and as such he was held up and unable to improve his position from near the 200 Metres until near the 150 Metres when he was able to shift to the outside of FIRST KNIGHT. He said after this he commenced to ride TELECOM TYCOON along and the horse responded well. He said after the 50 Metres he did consider improving his position on the inside of LOLLIPOP, however, he was concerned at that time he was not sufficiently clear of FIRST KNIGHT to shift ground without causing interference. He said because of this he continued to race behind LOLLIPOP and as a consequence was not able to ride his mount out over the concluding stages. Mr D Cruz, trainer of TELECOM TYCOON, said the instructions issued to J Castellano were to have the horse in 5th or 6th position if possible. J Castellano was told his explanation would be reported, however, he would be expected to take opportunities to improve his position where they existed. CLASSA SUPREME and ALL OUR WAY were sent for sampling.
Additional Veterinary Reports (released on 7 December 2006)
PASSION, which performed poorly, was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said at that time an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea. PASSION was again examined by the Veterinary Officer at the stables of Trainer A S Cruz this morning. He said at this time he noted the horse to have a stiff action. As previously advised, PASSION will be subjected to an official veterinary examination before being permitted to race again.
