Racing Incident Report

After being boxed, EVER BRIGHT became fractious and momentarily had its left hind leg caught on a partition inside the stall. EVER BRIGHT was removed from the stall and examined by the Veterinary Officer who said in his opinion the horse was suitable to race. Before being allowed to race again, EVER BRIGHT will have to perform satisfactorily in a stalls test. CELEBRATION, which was fractious in its stall, lifted its front feet off the ground as the gates opened and as a consequence was slow to begin. In the early stages, CALCANDO proved difficult to settle. At the 400 Metres, ALL CHANCES shifted out, carrying MY FAITH wider, causing CELEBRATION which was endeavouring to obtain clear running to bump with EVER BRIGHT. As a consequence, CELEBRATION became unbalanced and was shifted in. After the 200 Metres, NOBLE CONQUEROR hung in and near the 100 Metres raced tight with ALL CHANCES. Apprentice C W Wong (MASTER MARAUDER) said the horse hung in for the major part of the race after not being able to lead due to the quick tempo. He said in the Straight MASTER MARAUDER when giving ground was crowded for room at the 200 Metres between HOLIGAN and SUMMERVILLE POWER which shifted out. The performance of MASTER MARAUDER, a last start winner, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, MASTER MARAUDER will have to perform competitively in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. M W Leung (CALIFORNIA LUCK) said he had been instructed to lead if possible and he should endeavour to find the fence as the horse had shown in the past a tendency to hang out badly. He said in accordance with the instructions issued to him he rode CALIFORNIA LUCK along in the early stages and he felt he would be able to cross MAGI JOY, however, that horse maintained its position to his inside and as a consequence the tempo of the race in the early stages was quicker than he had wished. He added Mr A S Cruz, trainer of CALIFORNIA LUCK, did say to him he should endeavour not to get on the horse's mouth as this is when the horse commences to hang. W M Lai (MAGI JOY) said he had been instructed to lead. He said he rode MAGI JOY along in the early stages, however, when CALIFORNIA LUCK raced to his outside, MAGI JOY would not relax and consequently the tempo of the race in the early stages was quicker than intended. The Stewards will speak with Mr L Ho, trainer of MAGI JOY, regarding the riding instructions issued. CELEBRATION and MASTER MARAUDER were sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of CELEBRATION and MASTER MARAUDER after the race did not show any significant findings. NOBLE CONQUEROR, ALL CHANCES and EVER BRIGHT were sent for sampling.
