Racing Incident Report
Approaching the 2000 Metres, ELEPHANT DANCE, which was racing wide on the track, was taken across behind runners. Entering the Home Straight on the first occasion, CHEERFUL HEART became unbalanced after bumping with MEATH. Passing the 1300 Metres, BROWN BEAUTY bumped the running rail and became badly unbalanced when momentarily crowded for room inside GRABBIT which at this time got its head on the side and shifted in when awkwardly placed inside the heels of MEATH. After the 1300 Metres, ELEPHANT DANCE was left racing without cover, then after the 1200 Metres was allowed to stride forward to join the lead. At the 250 Metres, GREEN IN BLUE, which was hanging in, shifted ground and bumped CHEERFUL HEART. Approaching the 200 Metres, GRABBIT was momentarily steadied and shifted to the outside of BROWN BEAUTY into clear running. In the Straight, BROWN BEAUTY hung in. For the majority of the race, ALEXANDR THE GREAT travelled wide and without cover. The performances of CHEERFUL HEART and MEATH were considered unacceptable. Before being permitted to race again, CHEERFUL HEART and MEATH will both have to perform competitively in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. WONDERFUL BLESSING, ALEXANDR THE GREAT and MEATH were sent for an official veterinary inspection. After the race, WONDERFUL BLESSING was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said the horse was displaying an irregular heart beat. Before being permitted to race again, WONDERFUL BLESSING will have to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. Also after the race, ALEXANDR THE GREAT was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea. Before being allowed to race again, ALEXANDR THE GREAT will have to perform competitively in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. A veterinary inspection of MEATH after the race did not show any significant findings. GRABBIT, BROWN BEAUTY and SHINING DAY were sent for sampling.
